Add competing sites to the blacklist.

It would be easier if the sites got added to the filter like the racial slurs, including shortened versions; example.to & e.to

When something new would be added to the list, 2 more competing forums or sites would pop up.

Now a days I don’t see people mentioning them much regardless. If they do, they’ll learn pretty quick.

This week I recall 5 or so people mentioning 3 different sites, not on purpose to advertise, but still.

And you wish to censor them... why? I live in Sweden and therefore have Stefan Löfven as prime minister, but even this suggestion is dumber than anything Stefan Löfven has ever proposed.

Edit: If I want to mention a website and it's "censored", then I'll just bypass the censor, just like people did with r00dyp00s etc

Mentioning competing sites is against the rules.

Haha that is fucking stupid, isn't it? Why is it against the rules? inb4 omni closes my account. I mean, obviously advertising other sites should be disallowed but other than that sounds strange. Anyways, have fun adding hundreds of thousands of URLs to some kind of blacklist. I'm sure it's a great way to spend admins time.

There is a large difference however between mentioning competing sites and just mentioning a "different site"

Should probably bare that in mind.

If I mention the name of any big brand, you google them, you find their website.

I mention another forum with topics and sections based on the same things as we have here, then sure, that's against the rules.

regardless it is still not allowed, a filter for the sites would stop people getting warned.

I don't disagree with you that it would be a nice feature, but it would not be hard to get around the filter.
New members do it all the time when posting links.

Obviously I reported them and commented telling them it isn't allowed :P the point of the filter is to prevent a mistake turning into a warning, not stop people from promoting another forum intentionally.

it already exists, for words like fuck, the hard r and the german phrase for a victory salute used by the nazis. They get changed for other phrases.

I know xD

If people read the rules then they know to not advertise other sites. If people come here with malicious intent then they will bypass the filter and advertise anyways. All the work with the blacklist will have been in vain.

Regardless if they had malicous intent or not, I'd rather not need to report someone for being oblivious to the rule.

So how do you plan to stop it?
I don't see the usefulness. There are over 1000s of sites that can be considered competing with the HF niche. Are you going to give Omniscient an updated list every x-days of (short)domains, mirrors and names, or how do you propose to handle this?

Things like this get handled quickly in Convo, and you can inform the user on a thread/reply, and there is always the ability to report for when you need it.

A user is informed of how the site works once they join, they receive a welcoming PM from Omniscient, including a link to the Help Docs. Didn't read it? Then a warning should be in place. New or not.

If it is just another malicious actor, they will bypass the filter one way or another.

A user can always create a thread or contact Staff to ask whether linking to a specific site is allowed.

Then don't? I don't report every rule-breaking post; I try to inform the member, after which they usually do listen; if not, I'll report it later anyway. Reporting is your choice 🙃

I've seen some URLs where the domain and TLD get replaced with the #-character. If a site is cause for concern they'll block it.

I don't plan on it, that isn't what this suggestion is for.

Like I said, it doesn't matter who or why; a rule was broken and it's not for me to decide who just "gets a pass" obviously it's at the staff's discretion to act on a report.

Just weird to create such a thread if you knew beforehand that your suggestion can not be accomplished or implemented in any way.

What are you talking about, a blacklist already exists, I am just suggesting to add new words to it.
