Error trying to update Kali

I’m having issues trying to update my Kali Linux os, it starts when I tried to start Tor.service:

┌──(root💀kali)-[/home/kali]
└─# service tor start
Failed to start tor.service: Unit tor.service not found.

┌──(root💀kali)-[/home/kali]
└─# service tor status
Unit tor.service could not be found.

I then tried to update:
apt-get install && apt-get update And got the message:

https://pastebin.com/Z3QwJAFp

I then tried:
apt --fix-broken install and got the message:

https://pastebin.com/XQ90343M

Now I’m here asking any of the good people of HF to please offer any assistance or help you can

Thanks the Duke

Hey

Coming back to our previous conversation. I looked again at your output that you pasted on pastebin and it seems to me that the problem may be that you don't have repositories with libnode dependencies turned on. On PM, I sent you a link to an article with a similar problem on the ubuntu system.
Maybe it will be able to help you somehow✌

What are results after this:

Code
sudo apt clean
sudo apt update -m
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt install -f
sudo apt dist-upgrade
sudo apt autoremove --purge

After sudo apt install -f I get the error:

dpkg-deb: error: paste subprocess was killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/nodejs_12.22.2-deb-1nodesource1_amd64.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

after sudo apt dist-upgrade:

E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt --fix-broken install' with no packages
(or specify a solution).

tried apt --fix-broken install

got same error about Broken pipe

The file already exists, that's why you're getting that error. If you were using dpkg, you would pass pass --force-overwrite to overwrite the already existing files. Since you're using apt, copy the file to your homedir, then remove the file, then you can use apt --fix-broken install

Read your error logs that you posted

OK, I’ve checked the error logs and it looks like it’s the punycode.md file which is in
/usr/share/doc/nodejs/api/punycode.md

The same file is in package nodejs-doc 12.20.1~dfsg-3

So I need to copy the file punycode.md to my home directory and remove it from
/usr/share/doc/nodejs/api ?

Thanks for taking the time to help me 👍

Yepp you're correct. The reason why you're copying it to your home directory is so you have a backup of the file in case that doesn't work. But I'm confident that won't happen and this is the fix.

I'm still getting the same error:

dpkg: error processing archive /var/cache/apt/archives/nodejs_12.22.2-deb-1nodesource1_amd64.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite '/usr/share/doc/nodejs/api/punycode.md', which is also in package nodejs-doc 12.20.1~dfsg-3

The punycode.md file is no longer in the /usr/share/doc/nodejs/api/ directory but the error message still thinks it is, I've also tried removing the punycode html and json files to see if this helps but I'm getting the same error

I've done an hidden file search also but the punycode.md file isn't in the directory

purge the installation and then try and reinstall

What happens if you remove nodejs-doc ?

Well, yes.
Remove it, install it again and then try to update the rest of the system.

I’ll try it, Thanks for the suggestion the os is actually on a live persistence usb if this doesn’t work I’ll probably go for a full Linux installation the only thing I use windows for is bit torrenting 😀
