honor lock - university anti-cheat.

So at university, we have an anti-cheat system in place we have to install in our browser (chrome). The name of it is "Honor Lock" we have to show our ID and use the camera to show a "live testing area" This means taking the camera to show my desk, keyboard, screens, etc. The software blacks out my other two monitors while taking the exam.

Here is the back-end of what the professor sees while/after taming the exam.

There are tricks like putting the notes under my keyboard and moving it later. I study hard and get passing marks but I was wondering knowing all this is you genius could think of ways someone can cheat on this?
The video you uploaded doesn't work. But that sounds pretty insane. I didn't know anti-cheat systems for schooling were this advanced.

i fixed it, and yes college is no joke.
Are you be able to set that up within a VM, and then just use Google in the host machine?

Just put the notes behind the screen. LMAO.

This is pretty common now everywhere.

Exactly what I was thinking!!

Hurray for having multiple systems connected to the same monitors, I guess? Just need to switch the output for the monitor that isn't my primary one and I should be good to go.

The only thing is I believe the software will detect device input. So If I were to use a VM it would detect that I disconnected the mouse/keyboard. Not too sure.

It has VM detection, but I haven't tested that claim before.

Honorlock is extremely challenging to bypass, and the professor can optionally require a surroundings scan, meaning notes behind your screen won't work out too well. It's worse than a RAT.

Email your classmates a petition to agree to not take part in the test because of concerns about their privacy using HonorLock. It is unethical to require students to waive their rights under FERPA to a third party company unaffiliated with your University in order to have a fair chance to pass a class. If you get a majority of students to agree to boycott the test because of its blatant violation of your privacy, then you will force the professor to either fail the entire class or backdown from using HonorLock. If he refuses, remind the professor that he is opening himself up to potential lawsuits. You can't be forced to install malware like this on your computers. Stand up for you rights, it's easier to fight the system itself than to find ways around it.

A secondary computer small enough to remain hidden but hooked up to your secondary monitor. Perhaps even something like a Raspberry Pi if all you're doing is referencing notes / simple searches.

Allow honor lock to black out your secondary monitor, show your room to the camera, then switch the secondary monitor's input to your secondary computer. Having a KVM to switch your mouse and keyboard back and forth may also be helpful (edit: unsure if this is detectable), but a hidden wireless mouse/keyboard should also work fine.

Just keep in mind that if your professor see's you typing away at a keyboard but see's no action on your screen it can be a giveaway.

It depends on how they scan. Whenever I have to do online exams for my college they require an hd external camera setup that allows them to see my my entire body, and screen. Room scan, and proctor watching the cam as well.

Pearsonvue proctoring was a joke. All you have to do is hold your phone in your hand the whole time at the start. When asked to lift your laptop to scan just lift while pressing your phone to the back of your laptop. Put it back down, and prop it up in front of your computer.

Prior to this you want to record yourself with the laptop cam for practice, and look for the best angles to hide your body movement. It's not hard to look like you're completely still.

Wait, wait. I misread, if it's just on Chrome then it shouldn't be too hard. Thought it was a program installed on your computer. I'm seeing posts from 6 months ago saying a VM worked. Some went through the hassle of cleaning up traces in the registry, and hiding things that could be spotted. Others just ran a VM on default. It's worth looking into when the claims of VM detection popped up.

Well I guess they have to try and stop you. Not really hard to use a cellphone or other computer, just have to be careful and make sure you don't get caught on camera. Could also have a friend who's RDPed into it to read the questions and then give you the answers on a whiteboard off camera.
