Ethereum Mining Question

I have a friend that ran an Ethereum mining rig for years. Unfortunately I think the person that set it up has stolen the funds by their ex-spouse.

Is there a way to calculate earnings by the ETH address?

Looking around and while I can dig up the transaction list it doesn't calculate how much ETH is in the address.

I'm not sure of the hash rate of the mining rig. It's connected to the Ethermine pool right since 2019. But this rig was setup years before that.

Backstory: This is a friend of my wife. She and her then-husband setup an ETH mining rig in their home. They divorced a few years ago. Their intent was to let this unit mine and they wouldn't touch the Ethereum. They paid $3000 for the mining rig.

She doesn't have the address (yet) for the pre-2019 data. We are trying to obtain it.

I estimate she has 200-1000 ETH that she should have. Trying to help her figure this out.

Any good tools for forensics of Ethereum mining just by putting in an address?
if you have the address, go to https://ethermine.org/miners/ and input the eth address.
you'll be able to view full withdrawals and total ETH mined on that address.

Has she withdrawn anything before? if she did, you can traceback and check etherminer for full details of withdrawals

if you can tell me the GPUS models, and when she started mining, i can give you an estimate of the balance.
How would you determine worth of 1 ETH, USD price at the time of it leaving the wallet or sum of all ETH leaving wallet at current price.

You can use something like this https://ethplorer.io/address/0xea674fdde...16b898ec8# and export transactions to .csv at the bottom.

That's helpful info and a good link. A year ago the rig stopped mining ETH it looks like and is pointed to other currencies. It hasn't gotten an ETH reward in 11 months.

It says avg Hash Rate is 139 MH/s. Not sure if you could calculate based on that.

She told me that she got the rig in June 2013 which can't be right since it wasn't till 2015 the ETH block 1 was mined. So assume maybe 2017 or even 2016 but I suspect 2017 is real date. I'm almost certain it was before 2019 though which is when the current address she has is being shown.

Her ex either has all those ETH or he sold them already. In either case it's theft as it was suppose to be a split profit situation. Currently looks like about $10k (7 ETH) is at the address.

can she report it to the local police? they can trace back the withdrawal and track him if he used an exchange. (this is why i don't like exchanges, they destroy your privacy.)

Local police don't get involved in this sort of thing. It would be considered a civil matter not a criminal one. She would have to hire a lawyer.

Would be worth looking into the amount that would have been on the address in total had there not been removed funds. Then it might be worth it to get a lawyer involved, especially if there's any online correspondens between your friend and her ex-spouse to back up the agreement they made.

This is what we're working on.
You can check on Ethermine, 2miners and just about any top 10 pools to mine ETH and check on that specific ETH address how much payouts there were made. If the amount is a substantial amount of money on it, you will probably need to hire a firm that does blockchain forensics, mainly to track the movement of the money. Once they have it linked to an exchange, a name must pop up as most exchanges if not all are KYC mandatory.

If there are above 50-60k$ in play here, definitely pursue this and with evidence obtained legally that can be admitted into court she can most likely sue him and he'll be held accountable for the crypto.

Just to add: If he used a PEER to PEER exchange service like we have here, or he used a crypto ATM without KYC or LOCALBITCOINS to cash, then there is no chance of this to play in her favor.
She should get a decent PI as soon as she can.

Okay, I have some more data.

Looks like she started mining in the summer (say August) of 2016. When ETH was $10-$15. The rig was $3000. AVG Hash Rate is 140 MH/s.

Can knowledgeable members give me their best estimates of mining earnings from August 2016 till March 2019?

This is impossible to calculate correctly. Let's say the difficulty is an average of 2.8Petahashes, the online calculator gives us 0.40ETH/monthly without calculated electricity given that the ETH reward was 3 ETH back then.

31 months x 0.40ETH = 12.4ETH give or take.

But I put an average of 2.8PH as the difficulty rate. In my opinion since from August 2016 until end of September 2016, the difficulty was WAY lower than this, I'd say that the specific hashrate generated between 16ETH and 19ETH.

It has to be much more than that imho. In 2019 the rig earned about 10 ETH in about 16 months. That's when the mining difficulty was 2.6P. In 2017 for instance the difficulty was only a fraction of that. I think in 2017 alone the rig earned 50-100 ETH.

Also where is that calculator you used? Can't find it. Try to change the difficulty to 100T. Because the first year Aug 2016 till Aug 2017 the D was much lower.

If a rig can earn 10 in 2019, it should have earned much more pre-2018 bubble when it was super low difficulty and ETH was just $15.

One guy told me he paid his rig earned it's value every 3 months. In 2016 that's a LOT of ETH.

Just me eyeballing a rough average difficulty for the second half of 2016. Looks like she was making at least 20 ETH a month for a while.

Calculator used: https://www.mycryptobuddy.com/ethereumminingcalculator
Difficulty gathered from: https://2miners.com/eth-network-difficulty

Use https://etherscan.io/
Specifically https://etherscan.io/address/[addressgoeshere]

It will give you the wallet balance and you can see all the transactions and should be able to easily do the math based on the incoming vs outgoing transactions.

If you can pm me the address/addresses I can tell you the total of all incoming transactions. Sometimes they are even labelled if coming from a known address as well.
