I am considering doing a new HF Logo.

After seeing some AI generated avatars for Stanley I decided to check out what an AI could generate for HF.

Like mentioned in convo, it looks good but the font is weird for me however you like it. Will take a bit getting used to seeing it.

It looks like shit honestly. Can't really modernize a logo when the forum itself isn't modern.

Just pay the money and get one done professionally, or get multiple concepts. The only thing AI picture generation is good for is art and NFTs.

There are tons of talented GFX artists out there, even some on the forum who would jump on that in a heartbeat. Hold a competition or offer an incentive like you did with the sales tags, surely you remember the number of submissions you got, you're bound to get better results than this.

I am going to do some layout changes to HF soon. Mainly change the logo, get rid of the background, and make some css adjustments. Unsure if it will be considered "modern" though. I don't think HF looks like shit, I was strictly referring to the logo. But like you said, it does need adjustments.

Also don't blame you, I have a hard time letting anyone touch my work or even be part of a project, but sometimes you have to trust that others may know better. Sometimes what you need is someone on the outside looking in, rather than another person on the inside looking out.

This is obviously shit advice but I'll say it anyways, openly and not pertaining to anything specific:

Don't hold onto the past. You'll find yourself stuck while everybody adapts and eventually, moves on. Use the past as an experience, and as a reference to what you can improve on. Look towards the future, and be more open to new ideas even if it's as small as a design.

Graphics and artists are always evolving, you may be surprised at the results you get today compared to the results you got 3-5+ years ago.

I just generated some image with Midjourney, there are a lot of good ideas, but none that fit into the style of the forum. These AIs are good for generating images, but as soon as there is text, it's still quite difficult...

But I think as above, try to hire someone professional for this, explaining well your vision, and you might be surprised.

Ya'll think way too complicated, clean is what you should go for these days, the more things going, the worse a logo is, it isn't 2001 no more guys.

One of my biggest issues redesigning HF and changing any aesthetics is that this site is feature rich. And that almost all modern layouts are very minimal in features to cater to mobile users and apps. Some of the simplest websites are the biggest.

I know that discusses more than simply a few image and css edits but it's partially why I find it difficult to push HF into what may be considered a modern design. Would you agree that modern design uses minimalism?

NodeBB for example is lovely but it has almost no features compared to HF.

HF has gone through 3-4 design changes in 15 years. I'd say it's time for a new design, just not sure how "modern" it's going to feel to most members.

And I do listen to feedback but "looks like shit" isn't constructive.

Personally I find that the 2 forums that you gave in reference are not good examples, precisely because they are "in the norm".
Personally, what I see on almost all the current forums is that they are all identical! It's good to want to do something modern, but if you break your originality, it's not necessarily a good thing...

In my opinion, HF needs a little makeover, but it must keep its unique style, which makes it a little different from others.

Otherwise you might as well take a basic template on bbpress and then have a site that is a clone of all the other forums...
