I remember as a kid my brother tried this and the gun kicked back and smacked him right above his eye and left a gnarly bruise on his forehead. It was funny as fuck but also really dangerous.

Also in regards to your friend dropping it, it really has a lot to do with hand/wrist strength at that point, grip etc.
Tell him to work on his forearm muscles more. ;)

It's all in the forearm.
