Once you tax and regulate something this just gives criminals more opportunities to undercut that tax, and sell at greater strengths than the regulated stuff. These states are now finding out the hard way.
"California has yet to see its black-market disappear, however. In fact, illegal growing and selling of pot have increased so rapidly in the past six years that earlier this month, Sacramento vastly expanded the state’s war on pot by taking a decades-old seasonal commission designed to curb illegal growing and turning it into a full-time, multi-agency task force with the job of snuffing out a booming black market. Nor is California alone in watching its black market explode after legalization. In Oregon, where recreational pot became legal in 2015, officials now estimate that thousands of illicit marijuana farms operate in the southern part of the state, where gun battles among rivals have become common. Despite legalization in 2016, more than two-thirds of pot transactions in Massachusetts take place in the black market, state officials estimate. Mexican cartels and other foreign gangs, meantime, have reportedly moved into the business in Colorado—another of the 19 states that has created a legal market for recreational pot."

At least the state is making something off of it now.

It's making nothing but human misery. The tax revenue from marijuana is dwarfed by the social costs to public health and crime it creates. Even if it weren't, is having tonnes of mental illness, and crazy potheads shooting your schools and areas up morally worth the profit? America will become a third-world country if it carries on with pot legalisation.

Everyone knows that, but the marijuana is overlooked. Most people still believe it's just a soft, entry-level drug for hippies. The popular belief legalisation will do considerable damage to the black market is demonstrably false. The solution to the problems created by marijuana is not legalisation.

Where I'm at the damage that has been done to the black market due to legalization is insane.

Got a source to prove that? The damage to public health through smoking marijuana is more insane.

no links only word from local sources. Yes smoking anything will cause damage.

This just doesn't make sense, when legalizing you're taking away apart from the market away from a criminal climate by definition and thus give criminality less opportunity to profit of weed.

You can't take that as proof. Look at the evidence in all the states above. Criminals love legalisation because it means they can undercut that competition. Druggies want the strong stuff not the legal stuff. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2020...l-business

Varying degrees of damage. Marijuana is strongly correlated with the worst kinds of mental illness. It's not only smoke inhalation harm you have to worry about, it's the psychotropic ingredients, however ingested.

No you aren't because they just sell cheaper than the legal stuff illegally, that's how crime works. The legalisation also increases demand, as you get more people smoking. In every way legalisation is disastrous. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2020...l-business

I'm going to have to disagree with you on all angles.

How densely-packed with logic and reason. You're unimprovably convincing.

I'm not trying to convince you of anything.

This comes down to quality of illegal product compared to legal product. In Canada, while the black market is currently still alive 5 years after legalization, it's been nearly completely destroyed as the legal market has improved it's quality.
Nowadays? I'm just here for the nostalgia.

Where's your source that the black market has been nearly completely destroyed in Canada? There's also no such thing as quality marijuana, it's all filth and extremely dangerous.
