edit: If you're wanting to play Flappy Bird in 2022, you easily can using this site here: https://flappybird.io/
Does anyone else remember Flappy Bird?
I remember when Flappy Bird came out back in 2013 and literally everyone was talking about it, but not everyone was downloading it for some reason. Then all of a sudden when the developer announced he was taking it down everyone flipped out and tried to install it before it was too late, but for most by then it already was.
I still remember the infamous tweet:
Supposedly he thought it was genuinely too addicting for teens and that wasn't his intention behind the app whatsoever. I guess it was more so meant for a relaxation thing here and there for an hour or two maybe, not what it quickly became. He's even quoted in an interview with Forbes saying:
Quote:"Flappy Bird was designed to play in a few minutes when you are relaxed. But it happened to become an addictive product. I think it has become a problem. To solve that problem, it's best to take down Flappy Bird. It's gone forever." - Dong Nguyen
Crazy that he gave up the potential for that app and the money he could've made from it. Genuinely wholesome and respectable decision right there.

As he took it down, 100 remakes came up on the market.
I respect his decision, personally I would kept the money going, but I have my fullest respect for the guy, someone not during it for the money.

I remember a few people committing suicide because of this game. That's why he took it down I guess
He must have been making bank with it, not sure if I would have pulled it.
Man people literally were selling their phones with it installed for like +$300 markup. Markets are dumb.

There were some that were selling for $500+ over market value of the device. The sad part is, they were actually selling, not just "for sale."

Oh hell yeah, as soon as he announced it in that tweet I'm sure they started working on remakes right then and there.
But yeah huge respect for the guy, that's a huge loss to take over the right moral decision.

Wait really?? This actually sounds familiar now that you say it but holy shit, never remembered it got to that extent.

Bro I remember seeing some phones going for around $1200 - $1300+ on eBay and other online marketplaces at the time. Shit was insane. Really made me want to sell my phone but I had way too much stuff on it I didn't want to lose and I didn't trust cloud services whatsoever at the time so I refused to back it up that way.

They were interesting times indeed.
I remember when people were buying old devices with it installed just to play this thing.

For anyone not aware, this is known as the Streisand effect, which is an example of psychological reactance, wherein once people are aware that some information may be kept from them, they are significantly more motivated to access and spread that information.

I mean yeah this sounds about right I guess if you think about it.
It reminds me if you think about how little we cherish things like the internet connection letting us talk right now. If it went out for one of us in the middle of posting we'd be upset and it'd be "you don't know what you have until it's gone" type of moments cause of how little your connection will typically go down like that.

Ah yes flappy bird. It was pretty popular and then it disappeared. People were selling phones with it installed for a huge markup, hell people were even jailbreaking phones and installing it to re-sell. It was an "ok" game and I was super confused about the hype around it.
Nice to meet ya.
