I quit my job at a hospital last October

I quit my job in the hospital about a year ago due to unfortunate events in my life. My boss at the time wasn’t thrilled that I had quit, she also wasn’t thrilled that I had called out often due to family being sick. I kinda miss working in that environment, helping sick patients and would love to come back. My question is would it be worth it sending her an email or text message? What are the chances of her letting me come back and work on her unit. Any advice/tips on what to say to her would be lovely, thanks!
I'd initially follow up with asking how she's been and how the hospital has been. Get a little insight on how busy they are/she is and if they need more people working on her unit

Sounds good enough, should I email her work email or text her personal cell #??

Did you put in 2 weeks notice? Did you explain why you had to leave?
I've had to suddenly quit a job once due to something coming up and when I came back a year later and applied they hired me again because I explained to the management the situation and how I could only give 2 days notice.
If you dropped an upper decker in the bosses toilet and decided to replace the water in the humidifier with liquid ass then no I can't see them offering you a job back. The circumstances on which you left and what you said will determine if they want to give you another chance.
Nice to meet ya.

I was so busy with taking care of family, I never got the chance to explain to her why I had to quit immediately. I did put in a 2 week notice, but 2 days in of that notice, I quit due to unfortunate events..
If you enjoyed working there and she did not want you to leave, I would like to think your chances of being rehired are quite high. Only consider asking for your job back if your personal life has more structure because she may bring that up to you.

I'd say her cell if you two used to keep in touch that way. Makes it more on a personal note. Email would be more professional though, so the decision is up to you on how familiar you both are with each other
It would never hurt to ask. The worst thing that can happen is that she'll say no.

But if you contact her and tell her that your life situation is better and that you miss working at the hospital because it was such a great place to work. Then she have to be a bitch to not respectfully decline.

What I'm trying to say is, that you got nothing to lose.

Thanks haha, any other tips on what else to say?

Here is what I have written out so far, I didn’t send the text yet..

Hey *****, it’s *****. Hope you’ve been doing great! I hope the unit has been doing okay. I remember I had put in my 2 week notice but had unfortunate events occur days later which left everyone in a difficult position and I sincerely apologize for that. I’ve wanted to ask you if you would consider me coming back to work on the unit. I miss taking care of patients and the unit feels like home to me.
Explain to her how you had Family problems you had to take care of and that you hope everythings been alright with her and work
If you’re helping sick patients I’m gonna assume you’re at least a nurse.

As someone in the healthcare field, what’s stopping you from just applying to a different hospital? Doesn’t make much sense to me, obviously they’ll call your last employer but you just give up healthcare?

I’m super lost and doesn’t make much sense to me, someone with a ton of experience in this.

Hows your life been since?

I wouldn't go straight into asking for your old job back, I'd test the water first. Maybe even find an excuse to 'drop by' the hospital or something? Then you can also gauge how busy the other staff are etc (perhaps have a sneaky peek at the rota or whatever, see if there are lots of gaps, then casually mention how much you miss working there).

Lol wouldn’t it be odd to just drop by the hospital where folks are working to gauge how busy they are? And say you miss working there

OP just needs to stop beating around the bush and ask if there are any open positions and say their life situation has been sorted out and they’d love to be of service.

Depends how nearby he lives, and how sick his family is. He said he quit because of sick family members. When my mother was sick, I spent a helluva lot of time in hospitals. I probably could've got a job there.
