Have you ever heard someone call your name, but when you went to check, nobody was there?

Kinda like how I do with the ice cream truck, start thinking I faintly hear the tune down the block.

A friend of mine is a med-student, we got talking about mental-illness and generally "signs that things aren't good."
he told me they had a patient they got to interview, he was schizophrenic, and he gave them all the details about it. he said it started in school, he would often "hear" other kids talking bad about him behind his back, not a feeling but hearing them, literally hear. Anyway, he knew something is wrong but didn't give it much attention, he kept going on with his life until he graduated CS and had a decent career as Software Engineer, until it finally evolved. He started hearing people speaking to him, again not "feeling" someone is talking to him but rather hearing someone talking to him and the voices would make fun of him. he would hear people talking when nobody is there and he would -sometimes- see people who aren't there as well. All making fun of him. He's on his meds and they help but he had to go full-remote for working because it was so horrible with him going outside and feeling that literally everyone is making fun of him. If you have a "feeling" someone is calling you, I don't think you should be worried. If you start "hearing" someone calling you, I think you should get a consult from a professional. After all, if you are in a moment in which you are distracted or are thinking about something very intensely, it is very possible that your brain impulsively takes your attention away from the reasoned topic and moves it to a random noise and then translates it into your name. If it happens often, first check that there is no one who wants to fuck with you, after all, if this is the only event of this type that happens to you, you can rest assured, if instead there is something else, try to analyze what is happening and then of course make your own comments.
