Well hello I just recently starting glancing in here and so far I found some great sites to practice and learn cyber security.
Tryhackme and im not skilled enough to advance to hack the box.
What other material would you recommend I read to get into this a bit more?

tbh the best way to learn cyber security is to learn programming so you can learn how things work.
for example, you'll learn a lot more about how HTTP works if you're working with it first-hand every day for months than you will just watching some YouTube videos, etc. Learning how core technologies that every business / person in the world uses like the back of your hand will make you knowledgeable in them to find their flaws.
wanting to learn sql injections or something similar? learning php or another language that you can make use of SQL in will be beneficial because you'll be able to learn and see how SQL is used in real-world applications and how a bad actor might be able to take advantage of it.
I don't condone illegal activity but I do condone people learning about the technologies that all of our lives depend on.
Inactive, I don't sell products anymore. Please do not message me.
Just here to occasionally lurk.
Are you trying to switch careers or just doing this for fun?

If you are visualizing yourself in the red team in future your first priority should be Offensive Security ( https://www.offsec.com/ ). They are a bit expensive but all the contest is super quality and a good place to learn from basics to supe advance.
i would suggest going through the pre security path and then jr pentester path so u will get a very good foundation of ur cyber skills and then u can move on to the offensive pentesting path which is basically hacking machines comparable to htb but with a push in ur back.
function the web doss or?
I'm interested as well. Thank you for the amazing resources this helps a lot. Much appreciated!

Purely for fun not looking to make a career out of this.
I'd say to focus on a particualr area of hacking first, like web attacks. That way to you supplement your learning better. For exmple, if learning web hacking, you should try coding your own website and deploying it. That way you'll learn the ins and outs of how things are done, the terminoloy and be able to identify vuln's much easier on your targets.

An easier language like CS or an intermediate language like CPP will set you off properly.
Codeacademy is actually quite good to learn the basics. Accounts are rather cheap, too.
I would by no means call myself a developer, but a firm understanding can go a long way.
I have been focused on some classes there.
Learning some basic languages ton start at the moment.

Yes this well mostly now I have been hiring skilled developers to create all my websites.
I may toy around with a draft one just for fun.
But I think learning some other languages first would be more ideal.
