Would someone need python installed on their machine to run the file? define installed... you can run the file with an embedded version of python without literally "installing" python to the machine... but nevertheless the python interpreter will need to exist in the machine one way or the other... To run Python they either need Python installed, or your program needs a mini python interpreter to process the file - but if you do the latter, you must also handle any package dependencies or possibly manually update your mini interpreter to support new features as they come out. Yes, in order to run a Python file, the user would need to have Python installed on their machine. Python is a programming language, and in order to execute Python code, the user needs to have a Python interpreter installed on their machine.
The Python interpreter is responsible for executing Python code and producing the desired output. Without the interpreter, the Python code would be meaningless and could not be executed. There are different versions of Python available, and the specific version required to run a Python file will depend on the version of Python used to write the file. However, most modern versions of Python are backward-compatible, meaning that a Python file written for an older version of Python can usually be run on a newer version of Python without any issues. In summary, to run a Python file, the user must have Python installed on their machine, and the version of Python installed should be compatible with the version of Python used to write the file. ![]()

I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish, but you can use AutoPyToExe to compile the Python script as a Windows Executable. Not only will the script itself be packaged, but your import libraries and dependencies will as well. No compiler/interpreter nor libraries will need to be installed. There are also programs that can package your Python script as an ELF format as well if you're running it on Linux/Unix. You'll have to do some searching around online though as I'm not entirely acquainted with any one in particular.

Hello codeethan88,
Yes, to run a ".py" file the receiver requires the Python Interpreter to be installed. Unless you package it into a format that the receiving machine understands before sending it to the receiver.(PyInstaller can be used in this case) For example, one would use ".exe" for Windows machines.
You definitely need to have Python installed if you want to run the files. A more technically correct way of saying it is that you need the Python interpreter. Python is an interpreted language, which means that your code is translated into binary and executed sequentially. The opposite would be a compiled language like Java, where the entire source is compiled pre-execution. Windows does not ship with anything capable of interpreting .py files, so without having it installed your PC just wouldn't know what to do with the file, there would be nothing to translate it into machine language.
Of course to run/execute the .py file, an interpreter would be required which should also be available from the environment variables.
To make it portable (.exe), you could use PyInstaller.
