Lightweight "good" AV? AV do new file scanning, heuristic analysis, maintain signature DB and individual process integrity through deep-inspection. Needs lots of CPU and memory, this is why commercial AV offer 'game modes' to free up system resources.
I never recommend using an AV but strict firewall and compartmentalization techniques. Nevertheless, for any business who just don't care and want security, I recommend ESET Business Edit: BTW if you're looking for an open-source one, just search GitHub with C/C++ language adv. search setting, I shouldn't have to tell you why an open-source anti virus is not considered "good"
AFAIK Malwarebytes has lost its position as top dog (according to some).
AVG is a good one for their free options, there are many to choose from. Why are you looking for a lightweight av? If this is for an older device I'm sure there are still ways to use a modern AV > some weird C++ open source AV that isn't updated frequently. ESET is well regarded for business use.
Mcaffe will stop you doing everything you could consider a 'legitimate computer use case' but will not prevent many infections. The best AV is Common Sense to be honest. Keep everything up to date and don't download shit you don't trust. I haven't been infected (as far as I'm aware) for atleast 10 years, but when I did get infected it could have easily been avoided. If you're target with enough value that deems the use of 0 Days to get you, then common sense alone isn't enough and any advice from me or publicly available AV won't be any use. |
