Surprisingly enough, these class actions lawsuits are real. I was paid out from one years ago, I wasn't even aware that I was eligible to get paid until one of my friends told me about it. But to be fair, they typically don't pay more then $15-20 as the funds have to be split amongst the million of people applying for their piece of the pie.

I can't vouch for the website he's promoting, but I have seen these type of sites before.. they mainly just eat off the AD revenue, while providing you with direct links to each particular class lawsuit that you can sign up for.

Bingo, thats why i even said in my initial post

The website I've linked is just an aggregator that lists new class action lawsuits and provides the necessary information to file a claim. Many like it, I just like OCA as they're easy to find, easy to read, and easy to make a simple claim if eligible. I'm sure there are hundreds of sites just like it, but my experience with OpenClassActions has been positive and thought I'd list it as its the one thats worked for me and helped get me legitimately paid out.
Class Actions suck. You spend time filling out a form, then another one, and another, eventually you get a check in the mail that hopefully you don't throw away as junk-mail. The check is for $1.17.

Honestly, it's a massive problem in the America legal system. Lawyers prey on companies and corporations. The lawyers get very rich from this. The companies have to take the loss (hurts their stock price), meanwhile the plaintiff's get very little overall.

I disagree. If a company that you as a consumer put your money and your trust into cuts corners for profit and it affects you negatively as the consumer, then you should be absolutely entitled to compensation from that company. YOU are the one keeping that company alive. Is it not a slap in the face when a company you put your trust into now sells your facial recognition data to some chinese 3rd parties because they want money? Never in a million years would you ever put your trust or money in a company that publicly discloses that they're selling all of your information to folks who really shouldn't have it. Whether you get $1 or $150 from the payout, you are still being compensated for the wrongdoing that company has done against you. That's what these class actions are for. Now I will agree that lawyers are one of the biggest obstacles in the way for the legal system to flourish. Greed trumps morality unfortunately, and when you have lawyers who are only in it for the money making $10 million a case, its quite difficult to fix the same issue that puts that much money in those people's pockets. They sure as hell don't want to.

While it is not ideal. You have to take into account the effort lawyers put through to fight these cases with complainers getting the cheque (albeit small) delivered to their homes. All for filling form/s.

There should always be some regulation and companies can't keep getting away with deceiving people. Without this system of class action lawsuits. There is nothing else.

Oh please. These lawyers look for anything to sue especially against corporations that are traded on the exchanges. It's a game to them and it costs the economy a lot of money. It's $2-$10 billion that's awarded annually to Class Actions. The only people getting rich from these, is lawyers.

Facts. Unless the number of people to be paid is insanely small.

If you think you'll be alive 20 years from now, I highly recommend everyone to stop using every one of the services mentioned in OP and delete your data with them (Your data will still exist in some form but eh.) Your data will be used in ways you can't begin to imagine. So even if you're one of those 'I am nobody important so idc if they collect useless data', trust me when I say you'll regret it.

The reason I mention it in this thread in particular is because these companies collect data like no other and have access to a large portion of the population.
The class action suits mentioned here aren't pertaining private data necessarily, but it pins the underlying motive of these organisations which is to generate profit.
