linux or tails

✌I wanted to ask, which operating system is better? I am facing a choice between Linux and Tails. My main priority is anonymity, but I would also like it to be convenient for writing programs and testing them for penetration.

And would it be reasonable to install the operating system on a flash drive, so that if necessary, all evidence can be destroyed?
Tails is a Linux distribution, so you're sentence is not logic, did you mean Ubuntu or Tails, maybe ?

By default Tails is non-persistent distribution. Most of the time you make a bootable usb drive with Tails on it, you use it, then you unplug the usb drive and nothing is stored in the OS, everytime you plug it back it's like you have a clean fresh OS.

You can install it on a persistent storage tho if you want, so you keep the benefits of this distro such as all traffic routed through Tor, however this means that your internet speed will be slow, not convenient for a daily use.

Instead I would recommend using another distribution and adding some of the tools which are used on Tails.

Linux is not an operating system, although you could say that it's GNU. GNU/Linux has never really been released and always been unfinished. You should only try to compare like things. Tails and Qubes OS would be a fair comparison. Qubes is the best for isolation but is perhaps not the best for general use. Now Parrot OS is supposed to be good for privacy/anonymity AND development.

Thank you for your response, but if it's not difficult, could you explain a bit more about what you meant by other distributions? For example, I need to trade goods that are prohibited in my country, but it's not drugs. So what should I use?

I don't want to be rude but if you don't know what is a Linux distribution that means you are a beginner and there is a lot to learn if you don't want to get caught. Nowadays there is a lot of tools to track people on the Internet and if you don't know what you're doing you'll get caught. Besides, this is not something you can achieve in few weeks, it requires a lot of devotion.

Linux is a Kernel made in 1991, it was built to be open so anyone can access it and modify it for free. From this kernel many people built their own system, so based on Linux kernel you have distributions such as Ubuntu, Debian, Kali Linux, Tails, Fedora, Linux Mint, and so on ... There are so many different distributions of Linux because people are free to make distributions who fit their needs. For example, if you need Anonimity, there is Tails OS. If you want to learn about Linux and you're a beginner there are distributions which are user-friendly such as Ubuntu or Linux Mint. If you're into hacking then there are distributions for that too such as Parrot, Pentoo, Kali Linux, and so on.

To be honest, this is a wide topic and it would take a lot of time to explain this. The basic is using a VPN, however some VPN store log so in case low enforcement and justice ask to the VPN to show their logs they will. Some of them don't store logs such as Mullvad.

If you only browse the Web, using Tor doesn't provide you anonimity in all cases, it's effective if you're on the darkweb but if you browse the clearweb some nodes can be spied.

What you want to do is drive a Formula 1, but before I recommend you to start driving a go-kart. There are so many things to learn it would take too many time to cover all of them

Yes, I’m a beginner, but I know something. I wouldn’t say I’m a master, but I have worked with Kali Linux. Here’s how I want to protect myself, and you can tell me if I’m a paranoid fool or if I’m doing everything right. I go and buy a flash drive, let’s say a 32-gigabyte one, download Parrot OS onto it, and then when I sit down to work, I boot from that flash drive after encrypting it. Once I'm in the OS, I turn on a VPN, buy a proxy, log into the OS with an anti-detect browser, open Telegram, and start working. Is this a good system? If not, please share your version; I’d find it insightful.
For anonymity people go with Tails, Quebes, Whonix, etc

Two problems with that. One is that to encrypt the drive, you need to install the OS and format the drive as LUKS during the partitioning step of the install. You can't encrypt the drive after copying the ISO to it and can't run the live edition with encryption unless you have a persistence partition.

The other is using Telegram for private chat.

What is the problem with Telegram? I'll set it up with a number I purchased. If I don't encrypt the flash drive, will it still be okay? I mean, I can always wipe it, etc. And if someone checks the logs, I know nothing about the flash drive.

And if it's not too difficult, could you suggest the ideal chain of anonymity for me?

Using TG via Tor should be okay, but the site will now hand over user data to governments.

Using a live USB that's amnesic won't leave any forensic evidence once shutdown.
Know your threat model. Do you actually need the security that Tails provides?

it depends on what you do on the Internet
