I was just reading a post, that a had a user tagged in it, and I wanted to see the stats of the user who was tagged.. and just realized, this forum doesn't have the little mini popup. Not sure how best to describe it, but on some forums when you click on a username instead of taking you to a new page with the users profile, a small popup will hover over the username you clicked, with a box showing basic profile information.. so you remain on the same page you're reading, but can still view the stats of the user who was mentioned. Not sure how hard that would be to implement on HF, but don't think it would be a bad idea.

It's very convenient and superior in my opinion. Yes, would be cool if it could be implemented with the server upgrade. I know there are supposed to be some new things to look forward to. I think you're talking about "profile cards" that when you either hover, or sometimes click a username it'll display a profile card rather than taking you to the profile. The hover ones, same thing, you need to hover and then click the username.
Personally, I've always LOVED that HF never had these. I think they only add bloat, more load time, and extra clicks for simple navigation. Don't fix what isn't broken basically. Not to mention, when I think of the popup profile cards, it reminds me of either new forums or forums that didn't have proper devs behind it. Idk if that's just me but it's almost the first thing that comes to mind when I see them on other forums, and then I'm grateful HF doesn't work that way lol. I find it more a convenience.. rather then "bloat".. as it allows a user to remain on the page they're on, without having to go to a whole new page. Loading a new page, will take longer then any extra load time added by adding the feature. I've been on numerous forums with this feature, and haven't noticed any difference in load times tbh... if there is a difference it would be milliseconds. I believe some of you that have been on this site for some years, are used to what has always been and not open to something new/not ready to accept change. But ultimately, change will come to the forum when the server upgrade comes... so it's probably best to make yourself open to new possibilities and variations of the forum. Making the feature something you can enable and disable.. as you can't make everyone happy.

The feature you’re talking about comes built in on 'Discourse', a different forum software that I’ve only seen used by one other forum. As far as I remember Xerotic made this feature before but it wasn't fully implemented. Also, the profile card plugin is available for mybb. Maybe Omni can tweak a bit. What OP's talking about is a small pop-up window that shows when you click on someone’s profile from a post. And that's what we all here are talking about. An example of what I'm saying

Look for hovercards plugin on Google. It's still there somewhere to download. If you have a premium virustotal account you'll definately get it for free. |
