My Floor Renovation

It's been a long-time coming that I've wanted to replace my 20 year old tile in our dining room. Thanksgiving was fast approaching and thought I should get it done before it comes.

Started Nov 13th.

Photos are the progression of course. Did the job 100% myself with no assistance. First time doing tile.

So 2 weeks of work, it's done. I think it looks great. Everyone who has seen it seems to like it. It's not perfect but I'm fairly pleased that I did it. Total cost about $800.

Any questions?
Good job. Looks good! I also changed the kitchen floor a few months ago, but I didn’t do it all by myself. Paid attention and I should be able to do it myself next time, although different floors requires different techniques.

Not bad at all for the first time doing it. Maybe buy some pads for the table though so it doesn't scratch the floor when moved.

I've done laminate in a few rooms just fine.
Holy fuck that floor is so insanely clean and cool. Love the look of the cracks as well!
Amazing work!
Amazing job man! That came out great!

Which room is next on your list to renovate?

Nice stuff. The tile color is beautiful. Suits the room even better. You choose the tile too?

I did do the paint job years ago. If I find the can I'll send you a PM with the code.

The room next to it. But I'm NOT doing tile again. Gonna do vinyl tiles instead. No grout or mortar work. So much easier to lay down. The wife wants a look that's similar. Maybe something like this...

The wife and I chose the tile together. We both loved it.
$800?!
Looks stunning and for the price, definitely can't go wrong there.

Scrolling through the pictures on my phone was kind of amusing though, seeing some old flooring getting torn up and replaced with something grandeur, there's just a full montage feeling right there haha.
Definitely captured the changes well.

Looks amazing if only $800 real but also took your weeks..

I'd say it was 50+ hours of labor that's including running around time, all the prep work, cleaning, and so forth.
I liked the crusty carpet.
Overall the project looks really nice, and I like the appearance of the tile. It looks like Nero Marquina Black Marble. I think the transition in to your already existing tile is a big difference in color. Have you ever considered redoing the existing tile you have with laminate flooring?

We didn't. 20 years of yuck from kids and cats...we did have it cleaned a couple times, it's just never the same. Not a fan of carpet personally. If it was up to me. I'd have cement floors with epoxy in my entire home.

Understandable.

I've got a dog, so I know all about the crusty carpet haha.

Wood flooring has always been a favorite of mine. Tile seems like it works pretty good too. May have to do some renovations of my own this winter.
