Scammer gets $300k in Crypto

https://decrypt.co/296744/scammer-uber-d...000-crypto

I thought this was an interesting story to share.

A couple things noteworthy.

1. Victims were known.
2. Never give your phone to a stranger.
3. Scammer from Ethiopia (never trust an African).

Pretty brazen scam and glad he got caught.

Holy shit. Never give your phone out to strangers, and if i did.. I'm standing over their shoulder making sure they are doing what they said they would do. I've seen that scam with Cash App/Venmo and other banking institutions. I had not heard of someone doing a crypto transaction though.

Of course he knew the victims. Damn that's some dedicated level of social engineering.

But it was kind of dumb to try to empty it while the passengers were there. It was literally robbery more than concealed theft.

That's why I keep password/pins and keylocks to all the sensitive apps I have on my mobile. Even on social media. I can't trust anyone.

Yes, it's robbery. The story reads like there was some threats towards the victims if they interfered. Criminals are brazen. Also, limit the access of your phone to apps with funds. I actually don't have all my wallets on my phone.

Yep. Having $300K worth of crypto in just your mobile wallet is asking for trouble - specially if it is not protected well enough.

I post all my trades and alpha on Twitter. @SlayerXBT
If you’re an Apple user, and decide to give someone access to your phone, you can setup guided access so it pretty much sandboxes to what app you only want them to use. They can’t exit without a passcode. You can also put a time limit until it locks out the iPhone as well.
I thought when you sent on there you had to 2 factor. Don't you?

Edit: Hardware wallets all the way, but how did they get the 2FA? Shouldn't that be a 1PW or something secure as well anyways so even if you had device it doesn't matter.
I have moved away from using exchanges & hot wallets completely. For regular use, I am keeping a Tangem card in my wallet & rest all crypto goes to Trezor. But giving your phone to a stranger or even an acquaintance is not a smart thing to do at all.
I will NEVER DM you first on Telegram/Discord

Always confirm you are talking with me on site using PM. Always use contract. I do not do currency exchange/gift cards/AGC.
