Two US Navy pilots ejected safely after their fighter jet was shot down over the Red Sea on Saturday in an apparent friendly fire incident, US Central Command said in a statement.
The pilots were recovered, and one of the crew members sustained minor injuries, according to initial assessments.
The aircraft, an F/A-18, was operating from the USS Harry S. Truman when it was “mistakenly fired” upon by the USS Gettysburg, CENTCOM said.

I'm really curious to see how this situation will develop. Do you think their plane was shot down?

It wouldn't be the first time friendly fire incidents have happened and not just with the USA other major militaries have done the same.
Pretty easy, they mistakenly identify the aircraft in hostile areas and shoot it down this could have been a result of miscommunication, the F/18's could have been flying out of their flight path, etc.
