So, I don't know if it's a good idea to copy paste the contents of an email I got in my spam folder here, or not? Because I don't want to give any bad actors a thread to copy though I'd love to share this bullshit to the good guys here....so I dunno? But anyway.

These sort of emails make me laugh because thank God I'm a woman, so when I get an email telling me I've been very careless clicking links [which I'm pretty careful not to do duh,] and streaming porn, and was caught masturbating in front of computer by a hacker I just laugh my ass off because I don't stream porn, and I'm a girl, so I just read naughty stories and if I pleasure myself it's under a quilt with a vibrator, so NO you didn't turn my camera on and video explicit images of me, that you will share with all my contacts. 🤣

And this letter is so detailed about how they have EVERYTHING on you and yet the email doesn't mention your first name. 🤣🤣🤣

So, apparently I have to hand over $866 US via crypto only within 50 hours, or they will share images of me [that they turned on my camera to get] with all my contacts. Except that I'm not a guy and never streamed porn and never did anything without a quilt over me. 🤣🤣🤣

The email is so threatening and mean though. Should I share it or not?

I get that same exact email in my Gmail account multiple times a week. I laugh. Like oh? If you really did go ahead show everyone. Not gonna scar me or even a lot of them. Hell maybe they will be impressed. Of course my family will be forever scarred but I mean oh well.

They are so lazy though that they don't even try to code the form letter with a first name from the email address. Although that doesn't work with my main email anyway because my email address doesn't have my name in it so when other scammers do that it just reads funny as well.

I guess these are very common, but man the wording is SO mean and threatening. I do feel bad for any really young or old, or mentally impaired guys who fall for this. Yikes!

This is common...and in my state there was a 19 year old kid like 3 or 4 years ago that some guy hacked his computer and screen recorded him and used his camera to record him jacking it to porn. The kid killed himself but he had wealthy parents that paid the FBI to go to Africa and extradite the guys to my state to face charges.

On my laptop I have a piece of paper covering my camera and I have the camera disabled. I don't use it and haven't used it since college. In college had to use zoom and skype to do team projects to give a presentation online to my class as a project.

I've worked for many years in a helpdesk and handled a few tickets about these kinds of requests from panicked users. I can tell you (based on the logs/monitoring) that some users don’t strictly use their work computers for work 🙃. So, I can understand how they sometimes fall for it and end up paying, unfortunately

Yeah, I've received these as well. With the same exact bullshit in it. Its just a copy/pasted email some idiot wrote then every wannabe extortionist tries to use. They don't even come up with original shit. They are so lazy all they can do is copy/paste someone else's bullshit scribbling.

Yeah a lot of people don't realise the whole Amanda Todd thing had some hacking involved by Aydin Coban although yes he did get a 12 year old to flash him in a chat room, but he also hacked her some later in attempts to extort more CP from her.

But usually you can assume the absolute minimum effort has been put in and it's not even a hacker just a copy paste.

I guess this is even more common than I knew though because this is only the second time I've personally ever gotten one of these.

It's common.. my dad got it... my sisters got it. I got emails of this type and text messages. I got messages on facebook of hot women asking me to send them a video of me naked...showing my dick and face to them. I said ok...then downloaded gay porn and send it to them.

I've read thousands of these scripts and my favorite one of all time was a corporate campaign that started with "hello, ur jerks off have been recorded".

The sad part is, they actually get people.

Yeah imagine being 12 or 14 and getting that if you're a naive kid or imagine your a 70 year old man that knows extremely little about technology, and in the very early stages of dementia. Or imagine you're an intellectually handicapped man like you have Down Syndrome or something. 😭
Most of these things are so hilariously lazy though.
