He attempted to say the press would say he said a very bad thing in an attempt to downplay his slip up. There is no way to sugar coat what he said it is very clear.

I know this is "controversial" but most of the accusations of the "fake news media" trying to badmouth Trump come from direct quotes of his. Then his team spins it as "that's out of context" or "he is just kidding". Meanwhile voters like me don't want a comedian as a president, we want someone who means what he says, and does it. Yea he didn't mean it though it was just a joke, just like when he mocked a disabled reporter Serge Kovaleski, there is tons of examples.

Anyways all we can hope for is that he actually does a good job which I highly doubt he will based on his record.
