Let’s talk about it: if you were suddenly asked to land a passenger plane, could you do it?
Interestingly, a lot of people think they could. One survey showed that 32% of men believe they’d be able to land a commercial jet with instructions from air traffic control. For women, that number is much lower—just 9%. But here’s the reality: modern jets like the 737 or A320 are massive. They’re fast, heavy, and full of systems that would overwhelm most people without training.
For context, I’m a private pilot with a multi-engine instrument rating. I’ve spent hours learning how to handle complex situations in smaller planes, but even with that experience, stepping into a jet cockpit would be a challenge. Sure, the autopilot might help, and air traffic control could talk you through it—but the margin for error is razor-thin.
So, I’m curious , do you think you could take control in an emergency and safely land the plane? Why or why not?
Absolutely not. Maybe when I astral project. Have lots of pilots I know though.
Ive played enough flight simulator to confidently say, no...you're all fucked.
I have to be most experienced one on that passenger plane. Which I'm not. But I can grab a controller or a handle. So if there's no one else in the plane that can do better than me then perhaps I will take control in an emergency situation. Because the alternative is no pilot and 100% guaranteed death.

I know I can do it. I played flight simulator. All I need to know is what runway to land and I just gotta line it up.
what people don't know is that airlines are just like boats. Smaller boats are easier to maneuver and you can quickly make adjustments.
Compared that to a cruse ship. You cannot quickly turn a boat or easily maneuver it.
commercial planes you have to setup a descending path miles away from the airport. You then gotta set flap to 45 degrees and cut power. You would need to know the weight of the plane and use a formula to know the approach speed.
I think I can do it but I doubt anyone without training and practice will get a perfect landing. If people got an idea they can still land the plane safe. The key is you don't want a hard landing. You need enough speed to decend but not have a free fall which is a hard landing. It takes pratice because commercial jets are heavier and it's hard to get things 100% If you never flew such a plane before. It's like driving a small car and then jumping in a semi-truck. 2 different things but some similarities. It's just like planes too.
Yes, I beat pilot wings snes and pilot wings n64. I will try.
