Actions have consequences.
I love SpaceX, but it's time for them to push Elon Musk out somehow and find a suitable CEO. I don't even mean this from a political standpoint. He's clearly busy running the entire treasury & multiple gov agencies to be a serious contribution to SpaceX or Tesla. It's time for Musk's boardmembers to wish him well in my opinion.
This is not great for US & business in short-term, but I hope that things like this can maybe reign Elon in a bit.
If he feels that his wallet will be hurt by his antics, then maybe he'll grow up a bit? Food for thought.
Every company and every country reserves the right to determine their future. Just as USA is going America-first, it sounds like Canada is going definitely-not-Elon-first. Time will tell for what happens, but I think this is a natural consequence for Elon.

Contract being ended has nothing to do with Elon Musk. It states its banning business with many American businesses in response to the incoming tariff.

Yes, it is to do with incoming tariffs for sure. Elon's partnership with Trump on that front definitely doesn't help, and it's no surprise to see some blowback on Musk's companies because of it.
However, they did specifically mention Starlink and provided different reasoning than tariffs - specifically saying they won't do business with people hellbent on destroying the Canadian economy. Then again... tariffs are known to damage both sides (US & Canada), so technically this still tracks. But, they don't mention tariffs - they mention the intentions of those who impose economically-flawed plans like tariffs.
So while CA is pushing back on tariffs, Ontario's decision does appear to be also regarding specific individuals. I think we could even see this play out where Ontario willingly does deals with certain US companies but not others.
Quote:“Ontario won’t do business with people hellbent on destroying our economy,” Ford said in a statement, referring to the Starlink deal which was inked in November and was set to bring internet access to thousands of homes in remote and rural communities across the province.
To further support what I'm saying, here's another snippet that specifically discusses the Starlink deal as being more about who is selling and why someone is buying, than it is about tariffs. I think what Crombie is implying here is pretty clear, but he obviously doesn't outright accuse Ford of anything. He does however make a point of referencing the Starlink deal as between Ontario & the rich --- not Ontario and the USA. This makes sense because Starlink is a private company.
Quote:Last week, Ontario Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie called on Ford to cancel the contract with Starlink, calling it a “sweetheart deal.”
“We’re happy Doug has finally listened to Bonnie and ripped up the bad Starlink deal and is finally putting Ontario first,” a spokesperson said in a statement issued after Ford’s announcement. “But we can’t help but wonder: What other shady deals has he signed with the super-rich?”
Just for further clarification, Doug Ford’s full statement makes it clear that the Starlink contract is a “step further” than their pause on future contracts being rejected.
It’s basically the same, but hopefully this makes it clear that I’m not the one making this distinction. Ontario made a point to call it out.
Yeah once again he didn't mention Elon at all. Once again, here you are trying to bend the narrative to whatever you want to believe despite both links saying it's in regards to the tariffs and nothing saying anything about it being Elons fault that they are "ripping the contracts".
You're so delusional that you took links that mentioned Elon twice ever, and when they did they just said "Elon musks starlink" the second link the tweet didn't even say his name. Then you jumped to "they need to push Elon out it's his fault".

Gotcha, thanks for your disinformation sir.
Pretending that they didn't mention Elon once, while they specifically talk about SpaceX is exactly the amount of critical thinking I expect from you.
I think you should try harder to lead with intellect, not ignorance.
Sometimes I wonder if you even read things man, not going to lie.

Read the tweet again, did they say Elons name? Did they say it was because of any of his antics that they ripped up the contract?

This is exactly what I mean.
You are in a leadership role and you are here playing semantics.
They specifically mention Starlink/SpaceX, and specifically mention it as a deal with a rich man, and specifically state they won't do deals with men who want to ruin their economy.
How many context clues can they honestly provide?
You're being willingly ignorant to what they are saying to play semantics with me in this thread.
I've added you to my ignore list because you are clearly trying to troll.

Ouch! Seems you two are looping quite bad. Here's some help!
Charlie Sheen is saying that Canada is going to probably be making sweeping changes to trade with US company as a result of Trumps amazing economic policy that's restoring America to its former glory. That Elon is just collateral and the fact they don't even mention Elon is proof of this
Nodes is saying due to Elon's position in Trump's administration, and them specifically highlighting SpaceX, as well as the line in the Tweet about not doing business with people hellbent on ruining their economy, it goes without saying: they are talking about Elon & Trump(?).
Kaleb thinks the truth is probably somewhere inbetween! I don't think they've really specifically mentioned Elon but I think its a bit implied that they're not backing down, they're calling Trump's bluff, will he DOUBLE the tariffs like he said and REALLY fuck our economy? Time will tell! I think this is one of the first times a country has really called Trump's bluff and stood on it, if Trump wants to remain his strong badass firm businessman position surely he'll have to double tariffs? But this will also be awful for the US economy, interesting times.
For those of you that don't know the US doesn't just trade with China. Canada & Mexico are right up there with China, this really isn't that good for us.

1. I get what Charlie is saying, I just think it's stupid to focus on the semantics of it when we all know what's going on here.
2. yes, you summarized my view on this well. It's implied & goes without saying. They reference private companies owned by Musk, and make a point to call out his 1 company even as billions of dollars in other markets are affected by tariffs. I think that distinction of calling Starlink out separately is a point being made.
3. Hopefully someone is bluffing, jesus lol.
4. Yeah, prices are about to flyyyy
