Guy absolutely rips into the DIY community of what he calls, "sick freaks"

I thought this was funny to post because 1) it's partially true, and 2) he's clearly triggered, so 3) we can obtain a chuckle.

Lmao. I think I'm becoming one of them. I've been running cat6 all over my house, have way too many access points, and just installed a 6u rack with a gigabit switch with plans for NAS and a server for plex/jellyfin

Don't forget your geothermal system so you can cool your SSD while you propagate the DNS to your off-site power efficiency monitoring software which hooks into your AI-powered lampshade.

lmao
Haha, that's hilarious! Some people just can't handle a little humor.

I think that community did get offended because there are some pretty serious DIY projects popping up. They're not all shit
But overall, yeah, this post made me laugh
Rofl, can relate to that ahhahaha..

Lmao this is hilarious! But I feel seen... I just started setting up docker again on my home server. I'm already 4 unnecessary containers deep.... send help....!

Clearly you need enterprise git so you can invite several teams in to manage this very elaborate project.
May I recommend at least 2 git actions to notification servers so you can receive email and SMS any time you push your own commit?

I also recommend making sure you spend at least $3000 on AWS deployments, just to make sure your personal home server is.. scalable.

;)

I mean, it has gone to far with how offended folks get nowadays.
Hmm...

I am curious about how he REALLY feels.

Some things yeah, offensive
But also there are many people that’ll get offended over what is a tiny thing, a misunderstanding, or out of context.

He should definitely elaborate!
I know that this is just poking fun at the people running servers at home for multitude of things but honestly when I was interested in making a simple plex server the recommendations that I was receiving were in the thousands of dollars with me having to research so much information that it put me off from making one at home at all. There is also the fact that people have overdone every possible hobby and making it unnecessarily more complicated than it should have ever been when in fact people just want a simple yet easy way of doing a certain hobby.

100% accurate and exactly why this guy posted this originally. It truly is based in reality.

I think one big problem is there are literal children with multi-thousand dollar rigs paid by mom and dad. They are online acting like they’ve genuinely built it themselves, pouring what is days or weeks or months of salary into a home automation that could be done for $100-300 in most cases.

Of course some are adults and can afford it, but most of the time I see an overly priced DIY project….. it’s someone spending someone else’s money, or using devices they’ve collected for years as-if people have that all laying around. Many of us do, but the posts will act like a $5000 shopping list for a small DIY project is normal, and it just isn’t. Half the time they blow their money on specs they quite literally can’t even use because their CPU and RAM and GPU uses could be done on an early 2000s computer.

Then on top of it, they’ll even defend it all and make it sound like you can’t even do anything without a Godly chip and 4K monitor, for something as trivial as a weather display in a picture frame.

Same. I'll finish it someday but everything people recommend is so expensive and NAS drives are pricy as hell too

Nice Setup! Have you considered adding Prometheus monitoring?
