Hey everyone - wondering if anyone else is into chess. I've been screwing around on Chess.com for awhile now in my spare time. If anyone's interested, drop your username and I'll shoot you a friend request. Would be cool to play some fellow HF users.

If you are going to add me, send me a message here. I was good before but I stopped playing and training. Now I am just an average player.
What league rank are you?

I'll add you, but I'm about ready to go offline for the evening. I believe I'm silver league currently. I haven't been playing chess very long so I'm nothing special.

Have a good night! The silver isn't bad. I'm in the elite, but since I barely play, I'll probably move up from the elite to the champions one day.
I love chess .. haven't played much recently but it is a game I truly .. especially when ur playing with someone that ur able to play multiple games with back to back .. no arguing.. just good ol competitive chess matches. Love it
I used to play a lot. Unfortunately no time for that either.

Paid for the ability to review games myself but damn its expensive. I also find that the reviews sometimes dont represent the best possible plays.
When I was young I used to play chess with my step dad all the time. It’s great for a lot of skills. Skills that transfer over, like critical thinking, planning and intuition.

I have played Chess for a long time, I am around 1900 on Chess.com and 2100 on Lichess. I don't think it's really worth it to try and get much better at Chess, the game is much more enjoyable at lower levels. That's my insight after more than a decade of playing. I loved the creativity of it, but fundamentally at higher level the game is flawed, it's just memorization and pattern repetition and retaining such information. Creativity is punished.
To that extent, I'd recommend if you're craving fun to not get down the Chess rabbit hole. Have your fun, of course, but there's tons of other games that are also quite fun, no need to get sidetracked into the Chess grind as it doesn't really make the experience that much better.
Good luck.

Sound advice, thank you. 1900 is impressive. I still (and always will) only view it as recreation so I think im in the clear. It was cool reading your perspective on this. It makes sense.

You are not terrible mate. You just need practice.
Skill is acquired through learning and experience. It's developed over time through dedication, education, and practice unlike talent.
