Is it possible that Zcash can gain relevance again in the market?

Watching the chart and also seeing a lot of Zcash integrations and development still happening.
What's your view on ZEC for both utility and investment?

Short/mid term investment wise i think it's a nice money doubler, but at this point almost any altcoin is due to how how much everything decreased lately.
Long term investment wise idk, utility wise it doesn't seem to offer anything special that many others don't offer as well, sure it's decentralized and private but many are, and these days mainstream crypto crowd seems to be loving the concept of fully centralized cryptos, with ETFs attached and they hoping banks get attached as well. Mainly because crypto in general is getting centralized anyways, you need to KYC and proof of origin of funds pretty much anywhere on all exchanges, so might as well hop on to centralized coins too as at least they seem to have a future in terms of real scaling and utility. At least for investment purposes not for holding of course.
Also i noticed that bybit delisted them recently which makes me think that more will follow overtime as there's a reason they got delisted and that reason might apply to other exchanges as well.

You're speaking from a European perspective. I knew that right away before even viewing your profile. Because the idea that the market wants centralization is propaganda. Banks want that, true crypto markets do not. You can have your own ideas on this but it's incredibly dangerous imho to allow centralized cryptos to gain momentum.
Also, ZEC is one of the very few privacy coins. Monero is better but it's already delisted basically every CEX. Bybit delisting is because of the privacy that ZEC has.
Europe now has that whole new regulation which is atrocious. I can't believe how authoritarian EU has become and the people are doing nothing to stop it.
AI Quote: 🇪🇺 New EU Crypto AML Laws: Source of Funds & Destination Rules
The European Union has passed major regulations to increase crypto transparency and fight money laundering. Here's what you need to know:
🔍 Key Provisions
1. Mandatory Info Sharing for Crypto Transfers
Under the new Transfer of Funds Regulation (TFR), every crypto transaction through a regulated service must include:
Quote:Originator's info:
• Name
• Ledger address or account number
• Country + full address
• ID number or date/place of birth
Beneficiary's info:
• Name
• Ledger address or account number
→ Applies to all transactions between EU crypto service providers — no minimum amount.
2. Extra Checks Over €1,000
If the value is over €1,000, providers must:
• Verify both sender and receiver
• Check source of funds
• Screen for suspicious or illicit activity
3. Self-Hosted Wallets Are Affected Too
If you send/receive from a non-custodial wallet, the exchange still has to:
• Collect details about the wallet owner
• Log the transaction for potential audits
4. New AML Authority: AMLA
A centralized Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) is being formed in Frankfurt to:
• Enforce crypto AML laws across all EU nations
• Supervise high-risk crypto service providers
• Penalize non-compliance
5. Connected with MiCA Framework
This regulation works alongside MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets), which sets EU-wide crypto laws for:
• Consumer protection
• Environmental impact
• Stablecoins & tokens
📅 Rollout Timeline
• June 2024 – MiCA rules for stablecoins apply
• Dec 2024 – All crypto service providers must comply
• Mid-2025 – AMLA begins operations
• Jan 2026 – New crypto tax reporting system (DAC8 / CARF) kicks in
👥 What This Means for You
Crypto Users:
→ Less privacy, more ID checks
→ Transfers are traceable
→ Use of anonymous wallets will be harder
Crypto Businesses:
→ Must collect, verify, and store transaction data
→ Must register and comply with AML rules
→ Risk fines or shutdown if non-compliant

Very true, i'm an EU citizen sadly, and for us EU citizens, there's no difference anymore between decentralized cryptos, and centralized cryptos, because no matter where we register, we are not only forced to KYC, we're also forced to proof address through bills, proof where our funds etc..
And i don't only mean the funds that i for example withdraw from any crypto wallets towards another crypto wallet, i'm also talking about the funds that are in my bank account, last week i registered to Bitfinex for example, and before i could buy crypto on Bitfinex, i was forced to explain what work i do, where the funds in my bank account come from, how much i earn on a monthly basis, and after all that was finally verified, i was able to buy crypto, but for me being able to send out the crypto to another wallet, i was again forced to proof that the address i was sending crypto towards, was not only mine, but i was also forced to verify wether i knew from what exchange that address was.
And that isn't just bitfinex, bitfinex is just one of the very few that still accept me as an EU citizen, many don't even accept me, or they accept me with limited functions, after in depth KYC and proof of funds etc..
Every single time i deposit funds from Exodus or hardware wallets in general, the funds are most often not only on hold for x days, eventually they also get rejected as well.
Let alone if i would have used a privacy coin lol, i stay as far away from those as i possibly can.
----------------------
So now imagine you would be in such position, would there be a difference for you personally between centralized coins and decentralized coins? Besides the fact that privacy coins give you an even bigger headache, there isn't much difference as everything is centralized for you anyways.
That being said i'm an hodler, pretty much all i earn in crypto online i hold in cold wallets in the hopes one day i can cash out as an EU citizen one way or another without much hassle or risk of coins getting taken, not that i would cash out tomorrow if the EU suddenly goes easy on regulations, but you get my point i'm sure, it sucks to live in EU and being involved with crypto.
Don't get me wrong btw, i can still after a lot of hassle, trade on an exchange market, as long as i never deposit crypto into that exchange market and purely purchase from the market using my bank itself, much less hassle overtime in terms of your account getting temporarily blocked due to questions (still happens often tho but a lot less frequent that way).
In short, PayPal and Crypto exchange markets, are the same thing for EU people when it comes to regulations, account blocks etc..
Bullup that's all a horror story straight from Orwell's 1984. CBDC is coming and people need to understand it will be used to control the population. I just can't believe European's aren't in the streets fighting this.
I've already have multiple people who send me payments asking me my information for the regulation. It's gonna be a problem. I don't get it why anyone puts up with it.
Won't be long before EU has Social Scores linked to finances and you'll be denied buying certain luxuries, travel, or even food if you're not a "good citizen".
What happened to freedom over there?

These types of regulations are just killing crypto in general. The whole point is to be anonymous and use cryptocurrency as you like. More regulations like these defeat the whole purpose. The government wants to control your funds. Sooner or later, they’ll demand access to your private keys. They’ll demand for every transactions that you have done off your wallet. They’ll seize whatever they believe is “illicit” cryptocurrency (technically anything can be illicit).
As much as I see privacy coins as a utility, they are actually gaining traction for the long term. That’s one thing they’re scared about, the privacy that they can’t trace or find out about how much funds you are carrying. The only freedom to truly get away from these regulations are to be using privacy coins and using it in ways that the government can’t control, especially the peer to peer market.
Quote:The whole point is to be anonymous and use cryptocurrency as you like.
Not the whole point. I don't think anonyminity is the goal of Bitcoin or why crypto was invented. It was needed because of centralization creating controls over finance. Banks and governments don't have to be the centralized authorities over money when you have crypto. In other words, we don't need the banks, we don't need the US Federal Reserve. This scares the shit out of them. We don't even need Visa/Mastercard anymore either. DeFi makes many things possible.

Because European's are allowing it. They'll use 'terrorism' and scare tactics to get people to comply. Even say it's to fight human slavery and child porn. In reality, it's to make sure YOU REMAIN A SLAVE.
Europe should have never let them take their guns.

It's not joke that we EU citizens (at least me and many of the people i know/speak too). Are HOPING that Trump steps in and does something about regulations in the EU when it comes to crypto and finances in general. We're hoping that it somehow benefits him if regulations are lesser over here in the EU and therefor he does something drastic that puts the EU under pressure to lift certain regulations and plans, of course that won't happen but one can only hope lol. With tarrifs and all that's been going on recently you never know right.
The other day i was thinking, there's nothing else they can regulate in the EU anymore when it comes to crypto and finances. Then a news article hit me, the digital euro is approved and a roadmap is already released as well for its release overtime, which at first doesn't sound that bad as most use bank/cardless pay anyways already.
But the digital euro is called a programmable currency. Meaning that for example if you receive money back on your health taxes, they can program those specific funds to be able to be spend on health insurance only, this was 1 of the examples used in the plan for the digital euro. Meaning that if you are at the gas station and you have 800 euro in your bank, but those 800euros originated from funds you gained back on taxes or insurence and what not, your card will be declined at the gas station as if you don't have funds to cover the bill, meanwhile you do but it's programmed to be spend otherwise.
And as you can imagine, the digital euro will then again have affect on cashing out crypto for euros as well and vice versa.
When do we EU citizen stand up against this? We will not, we'll accept it all.

I agree with you completely.
Back in the day there was this debit card that had your crypto funds connected too it.
Meaning if you bought something with the debit card, it will take crypto out equal to what you were spending, the company did the conversion in real time for you and took a fee of course.
Those were they days for me, no nonsense regulations, no need for the bank, not waiting in the mail for another check by the bank, being able to buy/sell crypto whenever you wanted (cuz yes i could also go to the ATM and get cash instantly) completely free financially.
I hope such an option comes back one day, would be cool and open a lot of doors for me.
But that proved to me that we indeed don't need banks and what not.

Sad you guys can't rally to get your freedom back. If I was in EU, I'd be screaming to end the EU NWO governments.

Wait till they dictate how much you can spend on entertainment or things like alcohol. And absolutely, they will. It's coming. I'll go live in the woods in a cabin before I let them control me like that.
American's won't stand for it. Look at how we reacted against Covid lockdowns and vaccines. Meanwhile most of Europe rolled over and basically did as they were told, no questions asked.

Yep that's the concern we have now indeed, politicans keep saying in interviews that they want the digital euro, but not a programmable one and they accepted the digital euro but won't accept it that it becomes programmable.
Meanwhile in the plans (that got approved) is stated that it will be a programmable euro and uses such examples.
Entire clown show tbh and it's insane that we EU citizen keep accepting one regulation after the other without any back fire.

Yeah true indeed, i can't disagree with that. We EU citizens are sheep.
I'm honestly considering moving out of the EU with my family or at the very least move towards a country that is easier on regulations, inflation, prices etc.. we've been considering it for 2 years now and are exploring options and visiting countries as well here and there. Who knows one day we might do it, the option becomes more realistic by the month and we have a top 3 already right now.

Imagine screaming for a new crypto meanwhile Bitcoin already exists as well as a healthy open market. Zero need for a CBDC except for banks and governments to gain control. We have a fully functional crypto economy right now with massive innovation in the DeFi space. All without any govenments interference.
Going full circle with this thread. Back to Zcash, looking for a good privacy (z transactions) wallet and found this one...
https://ywallet.app/
Look what's on the installation page...
The gatekeepers are fighting against self-custody. Fuck them. Use a desktop computer, run your own programs. Not your keys, not your crypto.
I'm curious if zcash fixed some significant underlying chain issues.
1. Vulnerable to spam attacks, growing the chain upward of 2gb per day with no recourse
2. zcash's strong privacy features makes pruning the chain of stale or otherwise worthless data nearly impossible
A not-even-that-well-funded of an attacker can add (or could add if it is now fixed) an enormous amount of bloat to the chain that threatens node operators if it grows too large.
Just bumping this - Monero is already going so well at 330. Last year’s price was below $100 at one point. Zcash might have some light just considering how privacy coins are doing very well.

Zcash interests me enough but I do see that Monero is King when it comes to the Privacy Niche.
