Cryptocurrency boss' daughter escapes kidnapping attempt in Paris

In broad daylight, without any fear, an attempted kidnapping took place yesterday morning in Paris.

A woman — the daughter of a man who owns a cryptocurrency company — was walking with her partner when men jumped out of a rented van and tried to abduct her, likely to demand a ransom in exchange.

This is the third time this has happened since the beginning of the year :
  • Back in January, the co-founder of Ledge, David Balland, and his partner were kidnapped — one of his fingers was cut off by the kidnappers as a threat. The GIGN (the French equivalent of the U.S. SWAT, I believe) managed to locate the victims and the kidnappers. The victims were rescued, and the kidnappers were arrested.
  • Earlier in May, a man was kidnapped and held for two days by his captors, who demanded a ransom from his son — a crypto investor who had made a fortune.

I've already made a thread about the first case : https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=6290314

And now this latest incident, in broad daylight.
Damn, I think you need to be at least somewhat smart to be a criminal. I doubt these guys had any real experience or even a decent plan to pull off their crime. But what still makes me wonder is how they were planning to ask for the ransom. From what little I know about cryptocurrencies, they're kind of quiet when it comes to transfers or something like that. But how do these guys even manage to do those things? I imagine they weren’t going to ask for cash.

This is why it is important to be able to lawfully own and carry a firearm.

Also it is important to try and keep an eye on your surroundings, if you are a female or someone who is known or connected to anyone who might have money it is probably best that you avoid walking past vans if possible.

If you live in a country where it is legal to purchase and carry a firearm go do it but obviously get basic firearm safety training.

Criminals don't care these days, it doesn't matter the time of day.

This is an absurd thing to say. I'm sorry.

It is a reality these days in this world full of violent criminals.

So you can say it is absurd all you want but it doesn't change the reality.

It's not reality that woman can somehow live in society while avoiding vans. It's completely impossible and therefore ridiculous.

Re-read the post, you completely didn't understand the point.

This is what you said. I can understand the rest of what you said and still think this bit is ridiculous and offensive.
Lmao they definitely fumbled the bag on that one. Good people stepped up and helped the girl!

The problem in France is that, on many occasions, we've seen people try to help victims (like in the video), and they ended up either getting killed or injured — because criminals and delinquents no longer fear anything. Justice in France is weak and lenient; dangerous individuals are walking free when they should be in prison. Knife attacks are very common.

Besides in many cases, when people stepped in and, during the struggle, injured the attackers, they ended up being the ones on trial — sometimes even having to compensate the aggressors, or receiving harsher sentences themselves. As a result, nowadays people are afraid to intervene.

"if possible"

I don't care if you think it is offensive honestly, why? because it is advice that could potentially keep women safe and it is a fact that women are the bigger targets especially in countries with a lot of sex trafficking, and obviously you have to worry about ransom even as men if connected to anyone with money or have money.

If you don't care about considering all possible dangers and ways to keep yourself safe that is your choice, be offended instead.

It's not going to keep anyone safe because it is completely impossible and therefor utterly ridiculous and sexist.
People can't just "avoid vans."

You can cry sexist, impossible, ridiculous all you want, it wont change a thing.

You absolutely can avoid vans when it is possible to do so, you just want to take this post as offensive and sexist to attempt to try and gain some kind of moral high ground.

See a van parked in an ally and you can walk a different way to get to your destination, you might want to consider doing it.

See a van with people chilling near it in an area where there isn't a lot of people and you are able to avoid walking next to, maybe consider doing that.

See a van that people are acting suspicious by, maybe cross the road to the other side instead of walking right by the damn van doors.

The fact that you think that is impossible is honestly concerning and I highly suggest that you consider possibilities of situation and think of ways to be prepared and avoid situations instead of screaming "sexist" and "offensive".

I didn't want to gain any moral high ground. (?) I just happened to find it personally offensive. Didn't want to start with you either, but that's how I feel. Women shouldn't live in the city apparently.
A lot of criminals aren't smart more than they are greedy for money.

In their mind, the idea makes sense. In reality, it's not that simple and thankfully, it blew up in their faces.

As far as targeting of people in cryptocurrency, I guess they assumed they would be easier targets but the way that currency is, the expected payout might not be so rewarding or easy.
