What's your opinion on "The Dead Internet" Theory?

Hello Hackforums,

so the idea is that the AI will completely fake the internet. Considering that META is creating fake profiles now, it seems that we are on a pretty good track for that theory to become true.

In case you don't know what im talking about:

Please share your thoughts.
Imo it's already here, Def on Facebook & Instagram. AI Bots are posting content, liking eachother content, sharing & even add comments.
It's one big fake circle already getting spread everywhere.

Reddit gained early traction in part due to the deliberate use of fake profiles by its founders to simulate activity and shape the site's early tone. Same for Quora and other social media. It's always been this way in some form or another. It does seem to get worse, though.

Exactly. Considering that AI can nearly perfectly imitate voices..

We surely have a dark future ahead.
There will be two options in my opinion :

- the end of the Internet, smart enough people will just leave to reconnect to the real world as the Internet is rotting

OR

- more control from gov to access the Internet like a KYC to access the internet, post something, share pics, and so on, to lead to a mass surveillance

We have seen what happend when tiktok got "banned". People will go insane. They are addicted.

Even myself. 2 years ago, i have told myself, that tiktok and instagram reels are dumb. Boring. Dangerous.
Now i watch instagram reels everyday before bed.

I will say that the goverment will heavily regulate it, force us to ID ourselfs and feed us propaganda.
But as you said before. The best option will be that AI acts as a nuclear bomb and kills the internet before it completely makes us slaves.

Although I'm not particularly a fan of Neil deGrasse Tyson, I find his perspective on AI and its impact on the internet quite interesting.

Basically the internet as a source of information cease to exist as anything can and will be faked.

I can totally see that happening.

That scares me so much. And people also talk about the "Great Reset". That seems to fit in so perfectly with the narrative..
There's definitely more bots on the internet than real people. Especially on social media sites and YouTube, bots are used to set trends and make certain content go viral.

First few dozen - real people.

Bottom 234234 comments - bots.

Many such cases.

Sadly true. I believe, a few years ago, youtube said that by 2025 half of the views will be fake. The extend will be even worse in the future..
I don't like the sound of this. Most things seem to take a negative direction these days. Like the world has turned evil.
It’s here man.
