Green Hat / Virtual Machines

As a beginner looking into how everything works I’ve managed to figure out how to set up a virtual machine for the first time thanks to a thread I read on here & YouTube videos from NetworkChuck.

However when I try to boot up the kali linux os on the VM it fails to boot up but when I use Ubuntu it works perfect, now I’m not too bothered about which I use but when I see on NetworkChucks video that on his VM it has a lot off add ons such as email spoofer etc and Ubuntu doesn’t have that? Am I being stupid and missing something do I need to add all that in myself?

What are some beginner things to learn while using the Virtual Machine? And could anyone point me in the direction of where to learn them? I hear Hackthebox is pretty good ?

Thanks

Which of his videos have email spoofing? And did you use one if the pre-built images? Were any errors logged? Anyway, there are more ways than that to use Kali. You could also run Katoolin to install hacking tools, but be aware that such scripts can break package management.

I'm sure that someone will come through shortly to make the case that Ubuntu is all you need.

I’m unsure what you mean if I’ve used a prebuilt images but that video at 18:30 when shows the drop down of everything he can do with Kali I copied everything almost exactly the same but I get an error when booting I’m at work at the minute but when I’m home I can show error message to see if anyone can help as Ubuntu doesn’t have anything like that from what I could see.

I think as the video is old something may not be clicking right with the updated software.

you can download and import an image from the kali website into your vm software like virtual box or vmware. download it from here https://www.kali.org/get-kali/#kali-virtual-machines

Use the image from official site and use vmware and you should be good to go. If you have any issues feel free to message me.
Instead of Kali try Parrot Os too

I would just run WSL if I was OP

Yes, thank you. I'm quite sure that one of these will work better for OP than an installer image.

I don't think that I've ever watched that NetworkChuck video. Already knew plenty.
