School bus driver who wore schoolgirl's uniform had 'Lolita's Line' sign fired

A school bus driver who wore a schoolgirl’s uniform while driving a vehicle with a “Lolita’s Line” sign in the window will no longer be working for the York Catholic District School Board, a spokesperson has told National Post.

The incident stems from a video that was posted to social media

In the video, several people are speaking to the driver, who briefly stands in front of the bus dressed in a short pink skirt, stockings and a frilly shirt, before entering the vehicle.

“You picked up the kids dressed like that?” one person in the video asks, to which the driver answers: “Yep.”

Another asks several times: “Why do you call your school bus the Lolita Line?” The driver then closes the bus door and drives off.

The YCDSB says they followed all of its child protection procedures after this incident.

Whether this person is a drag queen or is transgender isn't what matters - the super creepy bit is the SIGN they put in the window wtf?

Lolita is a style of Japanese fashion which is what I'm sure the reference is to given the picture and it being wildly popular with crossdressing. You're likely connecting the dots of Lolita to heart shaped glasses which isn't the case here.

I'm only here to clear up that confusion, don't think I'm justifying anything.

I still don't understand how many people dare to go so far with their fetishes or fantasies. I hope these people haven't hurt anyone.

No. I'm connecting it to Vladimir Nabokov's very famous 1955 novel Lolita, which portrays the narrator Humbert's sexual obsession with and victimization of a 12-year-old girl whom he privately calls "Lolita", the Spanish nickname for Dolores (her real name.)

And I believe the man asking the bus driver why his bus is called that is concerned about this most common original meaning. Some of Japanese culture is disturbingly prone to fetishizing underage girls. In 2023 Japan finally raised the age of consent from 13 to 16. However there are many in Japan that see fetishizing young teenage girls as a cash cow, hence the fashion style name.

The heart-shaped glasses, worn in promotional photos for the film "Lolita," became strongly associated with the character and the story's themes of obsession and the exploitation of a minor.

I was implying the novel when I said heart shaped glasses.

"Within Japanese culture the name refers to cuteness and elegance rather than to sexual attractiveness.[130][131] Many Lolitas in Japan are not aware that "Lolita" is associated with Nabokov's book and they are disgusted by it when they discover such a relation."

You're connecting dots in your second paragraph that aren't there. I believe you're mistaking it for the term Lolicon which is directly connected to the novel. The fashion remains as a completely separate Gothic inspired cutesie fashion. The wiki has some good cited information.

Again not justifying this freaks choices or situation.

I know you are not.

Ahh it wasn't clear that you were implying that with the heart shaped glasses sentence, so I wasn't sure you knew about the book.

I think the dots are there, but not amongst the people who enjoy the fashion style, but from the person or people who gave the fashion style that name.

Just looked up the style. I liked to dress kind of like that as much as I could as an actual little girl. I was no tomboy. lol

It's an interesting style that lends itself to the newest generation of drag.

Hmm I think the man asking is definitely associating it with underage girls, but maybe the bus driver only associates it with drag although he did get defensive and slam the door when asked.
