A client of mine has presented the task of recovering photos on a deceased relative's iPhone 5s. No I-cloud backups are available and the only computer which may have contained backups was sold at an estate sale. I know it's kind of the same old story 😒.
I run a small side business with mostly windows based computers and data recover so I figured I would take a crack at it.
The family has come up with approx 20 different 4 digit pin numbers it "could" be. However I would like to gain unlimited pass-code attempts before I attempt and disable the phone.
Phone Model A1533 5s 6,1 iOS 8.3
Following advice on Reddit I was able to download and install Legacy iOS tool kit onto my old Mac book with Linux Mint. Installed SHH Ram disk iOS 12 and mount the boot partition /mnt2 which contains the necessary com.springlist.plist file and must be edited for unlimited pass-code attempts.
This is where my luck ended, I have been unable to download the file using either cyber-duck or Filezilla to edit the plist file. The mounted partition /dev/disk0s1s2 /mnt2 will not accept downloads even tho I can view the contents no issue.
I have been getting mixed reports from Reddit, some say it cannot be done on 64 bit devices, others have said it should work no problem.
If anyone has any experience or info they can share I will be forever grateful.
