Microsoft Helps CBI Dismantle Indian Call Centers Behind Japanese Tech Support Scam

India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has revealed that it has arrested six individuals and dismantled two illegal call centers that were found to be engaging in a sophisticated transnational tech support scam targeting Japanese citizens.

Good follow-up to the last bust—same playbook, different flag.
Using JC3’s pop-up feed + MSTIC telemetry let them burn 66 k domains in one sweep; that’s how you starve the funnel instead of just playing whack-a-mole with single call centres.
Hope the seized DVRs give up the upstream “lead vendors” who write the AI-generated Japanese lures.
This is very interesting. A joint operation with Microsoft’s Digital Crimes Unit and Japanese law enforcement agencies. To expose a scam network that impersonated Microsoft support to defraud Japanese citizens through fake virus alerts and remote access schemes.

Victims were lured via pop-up warnings claiming their devices were infected, then tricked into calling fake support numbers and granting remote access.
Microsoft also worked with Japanese authorities to trace victim reports and link them to the call centers.

This case underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in dismantling cybercrime networks.

It's all very interesting and I'm glad this happened. Not exactly the same but I sometimes come across sponsored ads that I fear are for FAKE help telephone hotlines.
Japanese citizens have been increasingly targeted by these scams, so this operation comes at the right time. The coordinated raids across three states highlight how widespread these networks really are. It’s a solid example of global cooperation against cybercrime.
Actually, i like that Microsoft work with Indian police to shut down fake call centers .Cybercrime must be stopped forever

I think as we go on and on we'll see more globalization as the people realize it's better to do it that way than to be divided with everyone paying more to solve things others have already solved.
I read this wrong for a second and thought they were actually japan based and my jaw dropped

Good to see some progress on that front. These fake tech support operations have been running for years, so it’s nice to see real action being taken.

It is so shocking to see these actually get shut down. Just assumed nothing ever stops these scammers.
