Did you know you can chat with everyone in a global site convo?
https://hackforums.net/convo.php?action=all
Some people might not know about convo, so check it out if you haven't!!!
Now, the point of the thread...
Do you prefer chatting in convo (or any group chat, anywhere), or do you enjoy threads/posts?
I like both and chats are easy, but I don't like how the content is just "lost".
Yesterday for example I saw HerrWinston and Terry A. Davis talking about some bespoke wiring, pins, and hardware for an LED project.
The other day I saw AlternativeTalent and 1 other talking about some more advanced topics related to licensing & encryption.
These are just 2 examples, but this happens daily. Convo.php content is lost to the history books, and often engrained in the memories of only 2-4 users at a time.
For that reason I have been thinking about focusing more on threads/posts than convo, but I'm sure I'll be in there too. I am wondering if anyone else feels the same way
I feel like threads obviously have the best chance of bringing in expert replies, but often times the experts are sitting in convo. I do think the Stanley notification helps a lot with this... Wish there were more ways to integrate convo & threads, or some sort of way to convert a really cool chat into a thread of its own.
I guess this thread is just here to see what ppl think. Do you prefer convo?
I didn't know that, I will check out convo sometime
Well you most likely know my answer already, i am a convo warrior by heart lol, i llike speaking about general things in convo and somehow for all my question i always find someone in there, but I do tend to use Threads for more complex questions for saved answers and most importantly for the view of multiple people, for simpler questions like yesterday its a very good thing to have someone like Terry A. Davis in there, but for some of my recent threads where i needed the opinions, thoughts and ideas of multiple people, thats where it comes handy :)
But in general i do prefer convo right now
The risk of not taking risk is riskier than comfort.
Never Deal Off-Site!

you can't beat dedicated support
I love seeing stuff like that w/ @Depressed@ . I know I'm always rambling or debating at times but at the end of the day, all I want is to see people learning, teaching, growing, happier, and profiting.
For me, convo is nice if you’re trying to hold a “normal” conversation with people. I still prefer threads and posts so you can always go back and reference things later on if needed. Both have their benefits.
Staff will never reach out to you off-site. We only communicate on HF.
Damn I'm mentioned so much, almost makes me have an ego

I think in convo you can be more casual and personal and perhaps more vulnerable also.

Certainly a lot of angst in the teenagers being vulnerable, I see online psychology of haha I'm depressed and can't sleep hasn't changed, though I can't talk much, I took the bullet of looking at my earlier threads last night, good fucking lord, I was that guy.
It's where you can let out your LQ spasms without it effecting your forum vibe, like when I post here, I try be a bit formal, maybe some jokes, take the piss here be informative here.
But in the chat, unless it calls for it explicitly, I'll be flamboyant, swear more, jab at members with jokes, because it's more ethereal, it isn't like it's set, by the time you move on from the day, the chat is 'gone'. Sure Omners probably logs it for legal reasons, that's not what I meant, it's just, less. Impactful I guess?
Like we're sitting at a bar having a drink instead of at a formal thing needing to be our best selves.

You're more relaxed in chat. The messages are moving up faster. In the moment the worth of your message is less objectively.
Also the fact that you mentioned that you know tomorrow the chat will be gone. That itself is escaping consequences of said messages so to speak.

There is never freedom from consequence. Someone saw it, they will remember, they will judge and hold it with them, not always consciously, but I see names now and think to myself certain thoughts that might be better left unsaid.
But yes, the risk is... Less you might say.
I prefer convo to be honest....
