Female couple locked son up & starved him to death.

Female couple allegedly locked their adopted son up & starved him to death. They also tortured and abused a second adopted son.
Becky Hamber and Brandy Cooney are charged with murder following the 2024 death of their severely malnourished 12-year-old adopted son.

The 12-year-old boy they were in the process of adopting died weighing just 48 lbs the weight he had been when he was six.

Crown prosecutors said that the victim and his younger brother were locked in their rooms for 18 hours a day.

Prosecutors also alleged that the boys would be allowed to leave their rooms just once in the middle of the night when they were woken up to use the bathroom — a task that required the assistance of at least one of their mothers because the couple would allegedly make them wear wetsuits which were then zip-tied so they could not be removed.

Once in their rooms, the boys would also be forced to exercise as their mothers monitored them through video cameras they had set up in the room, Crown prosecutors alleged.

Cooney testified that the two boys would be required to do burpees, sit against a wall, walk laps while locked in the room, CBC reported.

The burpees were often used as a punishment for the boys, with Cooney allegedly sending a text message to Hamber one Christmas Eve that read: "Tell them good luck figuring out burpees in the shower when they bitch about never having food."

The brothers were just 10 years old and 8 years old at that time.

This kind of thing was a lot harder for people to do when the government forced every child to go to school. Homeschooling in the USA, Canada and England needs monitoring by the government.

But no one cares enough about children being tortured apparently.

There are stories like this in the news again and again and again. No one cares enough about children being tortured???

I once tried an online petition about this but I'm not even in the USA and I couldn't get it enough attention.

The other problem is that all the states have different rules. This should be done at a federal level. But of course arguments will come up about government control but isn't children being tortured more of an issue than parents who want total freedom with homeschooling?

David Pelzer and Richard Pelzer would not have lived if they'd lived in an age when anyone could just say, "I'm homeschooling them so.....they can disappear and I can do ANYTHING."
These kind of new always make me sick, like genuinely nauseous.
I never want children myself, but I still think that kids are the most innocent beings along with animals that the planet earth carries.
And hearing how these children were tortured is just f#ucked up in general, like how damn demented do you have to be to do such things?
I hope the two women will never see the light of day again. They simply do not deserve it.
Non scholae sed vitae discimus
My apologies I just realised they are currently on trial in Ontario, Canada.

It's not an American case after all, so it seems Canada also has a problem with allowing completely unmonitored home schooling which can lead to torture and death. Of course #NotAllHomeschoolers by a long shot, but isn't one tortured to death child too many to have this modern system of allowing parents and guardians to just take kids out of school and do absolutely whatever?
What's happening? This is so cruel. These women are sick mentally.

Torturing an adopted orphan has another floor on Hell.
There was a failure here when the boy was still in the process of being adopted.

Yes! Do they not even go check in with the child since they were they were in the process of adopting???
This is something animalistic and completely against humanity… I don’t know why anyone would do that, even to an animal, not just humans.

Adopting is fortunately not a human right. There should be some mandatory follow up for every child being adopted, at least once. For the welfare of the child.

A lot of times what's happened in the past is that social workers come to check up on the child but the "parents" or "guardians" are made aware in advance, and do a whole lot to fake being decent parents on the day, and threaten the kids that they have to say what they tell them and unfortunately a lot of little kids in that situation don't realise that these people have more power than their parents or guardian if they would only tell the truth so they don't.

Parents do stuff like move the scapegoat tortured kid into the other children's room the night before and pretend that is their bed. Hang clothes in the smelly closet the child actually sleeps in to pretend whomever said the kid slept in a closet was full of it. Bathe and dress the child in nice clothes and have them sitting at a nice meal when the social worker comes even though they normally starve them and only let them have the uneaten scraps from other plates or cold soup or something horrible normally.

I believe what you describe. I thought it would be reasonable to expect the social workers to be more trained, less naive, and more "on" when they actually perform the important check-ups, but of course psychopaths are often devious and intelligent and well equipped to lie and come across as credible.

The fact these tragic incidents happen is just so very very sad. (I don't speak English if I sound weird).

You do speak English. You can just say "English is not my first language," or even "I'm ESL," and people will understand, but you wrote that really well.

The only bit that was funny and a little weird was "I don't speak English," on the end after a great post that didn't really have any mistakes. lol

Hahaha, thanks! 😄
I don't understand why you would adopt children and do this. These woman are the definition of evil. I don know if its more coverage/exposure or what, but this stuff seems o be popping up more frequently.

This other article has more information

The child, who was found soaking wet, unresponsive, emaciated, and at age 10 weighed less than he did at the age of six, was referred to as 'the fag" by the lesbian couple.
In another exchange, Hamber told Cooney: 'We're f***ed,' before calling the younger brother age 8, , a 'f***ing d***.' He was also in their care.

Her comments came after the couple were contacted by the Children's Aid Society (CAS) that the younger boy told a worker about having his hands tied up at home during a therapy session.
Dr. Graeme (Stephen) Duncan, the family's physician, described the eerie details of LL's deteriorating health.

During a December 13, 2022, appointment - just days before LL took his final breath - Duncan said the boy was 'normal' despite losing 10lbs in one year and weighing less than he did at the age of six.

Meanwhile, Stefanie Peachey, a social worker assigned to watch over the boys, told the court she recorded 'yellow flags' after saying she saw the surviving brother zip-tied into his pajamas, per the outlet.
The younger boy said that his foster parents who had not yet finished the adoption process would often forbid him to speak for days at a time.

He said that if he or his brother spoke out of turn, the couple would tack on even more days of forced silence.
