API App Award Goal

Would members have more interest in creating API apps if there was an Award Goal. We already have an award for API Dev .

I'm thinking I can easily make it so any app with 25 members using it (authorized) can get the award.

Any feedback?
I think this would be a cool idea. I love seeing new API apps on here and would like to see more. I’d like to come up with some API app ideas and start making some more myself.

Hell yeah

With vibe coding I think it's more likely that some cooler apps will come out.

Also, I might totally rebuild the API once we're on new server. It's buggy, I don't like how it's coded either. Could be vastly improved imho.

If you remake the API I would be willing to make several apps.

Curious what you feel the API lacks or if you have recommendations for endpoints or whatever....

I know the API isn't very good. It barely functions. I've had to try and fix parts and when I look at the code I'm rather unhappy at how it turned out. Coders have their ways. Me, I think I'm a simple coder. If the code is complex, then it's harder to debug and even harder to expand.

I think a good start would be to manage everything with private messaging, get messages, reply, etc
I assume some users would be able to automate replies for people with AI for customer servicing and such.

Would basically have to be done by 1 category at a time to test everything.

These are some notes from a few years back I kept in a notepad.

API notes:
- forums needs to return it's children subforums
- Ideally a way to get all forums and their subforums
- popularity:
- endpoint to return a user's popularity recieved
- endpoint to return a user's popularity given
- me&users:
- "awards" property currently only returns the number of awards, not the award info itself (ideally get an array of award id, award name, award description, and award timestamp)
- "bratings" property needs to be added to show positive, neutral, and negative b-ratings associated to a user
- groups: need an endpoint to get groups information, including:
- name, userbar_url, star_url, description?, owner?, leaders?, members?
- trust scan:
- endpoint to return trust scan results for a user
- quick loves:
- endpoint to see quick loves given and received
- count needs to be added to posts
- private messages:
- endpoint to get private messages by folder
- endpoint to get private message by id
- endpoint to send private messages
- threads:
- need a parameter to search a users thread in a subforum (like _fid)
- need a parameter to change the sort order of results

Oh excellent list.

New server provides one big opportunity imho. Which is to do something like putting the API onto Github for community editing. It's the main feature I would consider doing that with in order to improve it.

Happily I get to say we are finally actually moving and it's no longer this vague future months away. Instead it's happening this month. The future is looking very bright for HF.

Thank you for sharing that list again, it's indeed very helpful.

I definitely agree. Some areas were buggy for sure and made it harder to reach end points than needed. It’s functional, but I always felt like we could get a lot more out of it.

Anything is possible with the API, granted it's not the best documented API but once an incentive is added, I am sure people will be learning things quickly and playing with it to make a large number of things.

Definitely would have fun with this.

+1
Nice idea for those who can innovate some api apps , i think someone already got it previously?
Limited offer

Signature space ... 1k bytes per week
I think it will be easily abused, in my opinion there should be a manual award grant system with manual app review once the award goal is reached.
