Why do you use privacy coins?

I know this is HF, there’s a lot of folks on here who wear their fedoras white, grey or black. Don’t admit to any crimes on here. What is the reason why you want to hide your transactions and balances?

I’m more in the gray area when it comes to privacy coins. I think it’s cool that the government can’t crack Monero. Not even Uncle Sam himself. Maybe The Joker would’ve considered using XMR and truly enjoy his wealth.

I also just hate how public blockchain really is. Everyone can see where i’ve sent money. How much i have. Try to scam or hack me in someway possible (cough cough databreaches). I’m sure there’s a fine line when someone is just trying to enjoy profits, but simply just don’t want to deal with the headaches that come along with it. Hence, XMR and cash is the way to go
You kinda answered it for me in your post. The Blockchain is a public ledger and you sometimes want to break the trace using XMR. Maybe you don't want to share from which exchange you use to buy crypto for example.
Don't really have a usecase for myself, haven't touched a privacy coin in quite some time. I'm not prominent enough to be watched or traced by people, if I want a degree of privacy, simply withdrawing funds from an exchange to a new address is enough.
Yeah I don't have a use case for it, I just buy with the intention of it going up and selling for profit later.
in my opinion, really the only true privacy coin out there right now is XMR (monero)
Everybody jumping in on this best coin in existence!

Still mining this coin on my laptops... lol

I like to buy organs and things like that... j/k

I don't have to worry about people who send me funds tracing where I send them.

Example, I take a BTC payment to a wallet. Then I send that BTC to Coinbase. Now that original payer knows I have a Coinbase account and might try to SE CB to steal it.

That's just one example of why.

Nobody should know my wallet balance, who sends to me, or where I send it. That's not something which should be public. Checking Accounts are not public, why should blockchain wallets be?

I do notice alot of talk about privacy of coin. Could Monero jump just because of privacy?

It’s really easy to mine because it’s mainly CPU focused. It’s ASIC and GPU resistant. However, considering electricity cost, you’re better off investing the $50-60 a month you spend mining XMR to the coin itself.

Unless you’re getting free electricity, the kWh is super cheap or you’re recycling the heat from the CPUs to warm up your home during the winter, it’s not really worth it in the long term.

And that’s with just any crypto in general, not just XMR. Even ASIC mining is kinda late to the game, the golden ages were from 2009-2016.

Just imagine how much these guys from China made:

The only way i could think of mining this coin would be profitable is by mining with RATs/silent miners and ALOT of clients
Would you consider this Grey or Black tho?

Thats honestly a moral compass lol. The probabilities of prosecution is probably less than a person stealing a candy bar at a store.

It’s blackhat, but my moral compass say it’s grey lmao

I don't notice any change in my electric bill mining or not mining XMR to be honest.

People are making millions doing this right now using bot nets.

I think it already did when it went to 700$

How big would the bot net have to be for them to generate millions?

Depends on CPU power overall. I would imagine 500 modern laptop slaves could easy give you around 1 MH/s That's around $28 per day.

Not bad at all, I wonder how hard it'd be to get like 5,000 slaves. I never got into that whole RAT game so I don't know much about spreading & stuff.
