Musk found liable to Twitter shareholders in fraud lawsuit over $44 billion takeover

The verdict from a jury in San Francisco federal court civil trial found Musk, was liable after he was accused of falsely claiming on social media that Twitter underreported how many bots, were on its platform

Damages have yet to be calculated but Francis Bottini, a lawyer for the shareholders in the class action suit, estimated they could total about $2.5 billion.

"Musk's status as the world's richest man is not a free pass," the lawyer for the shareholders said in a statement. "If you're able to move markets with your tweets you're responsible for the harm you cause to investors."

My personal opinion is that Musk often thinks he can violate all kinds of ethical considerations so this push back is good. He is often caught in lies because he seems to think most people are a lot stupider than he is.

I don't dislike Elon because he's wealthy or because he's a billionaire. I dislike him because he's a dick.

I want to just post a laughing emoji here. 🤣

Good catch! It's weird how often this happens with lawyers and court cases.

There was this one murder trial where the defense lawyer's last name was Gore and the prosecution's lawyer was named Boring. Or it might have been the other way around, but I was like, "What's up with these lawyers's last names?" 🤣

You're right, sometimes I deep dive the murder mystery rabbit holes on YouTube or spotify and it's almost eerie how often a lawyer or at least a detective or someone of importance in a story somehow has a name that's relevant to the current topic. But alas i shouldn't think too deeply about it or I'll have to reach into the tinfoil hat draw and that turns into hours of extensive reading to no resolve.
I've always thought that the statement was hard to prove one way or the other.

There was a former cyber expert for the FBI and CIA Dan Woods who once claims based on his own analysis that up to 80% of X accounts could be bots.

An academic study showed as many at 15% could be bot accounts.

Twitter claimed the real number was under 5% when Elon was going through purchase.

It is difficult to prove though.

Before Elon's disastrous take over of Twitter I was having real engagement with real people, after his take over it began to flood with a ridiculous amount of bots, many of which were either sexual or MAGA bots.

My own personal experience is bots got worse under his ownership.
He's maybe smart but imagine buying platform like twitter, and you are the one who gets to decide everything, I think my head would be full first year with wrong desigions, my point is he's also human, he's gonna make mistakes.

I've been called a bot on Twitter just for advertising a product on my account. A politician had followed me back and someone told him to unfollow me because I was obviously a bot because my account was advertising books I had written that were traditionally published. So, he unfollowed me.

Other times I've been called a bot for having political opinions.

I think back when Elon was trying to lower Twitter's value to buy it and influence the elections I think a lot of accounts that were called bots were actually shills from the third world being paid 27 cents an hour in what have been called "troll farms," to push propaganda of one sort or another.

Sadly, those desperate people have probably been replaced by AI by now.

Being on HF and having run an SMM service on here and multiple other sites gave me a solid glimpse into social media bots. I was running SMM panels before the Elon buyout and if anything the prices went up after Elon purchased. It became harder to get followers and likes to stick. It's reported last year alone that over 800 million accounts were banned.

For whatever reason he lost his case although that may well be reversed on appeal. But Elon has a history of trying to manipulate the stock market to his own ends which is supposed to be illegal.

I certainly don't believe Twitter was ever 80% bots.
there are bots everywhere man

So you think Elon is doing quite a good job with it? Is that what you are saying? To be honest I got accused of being a bot because of advertising erotic books lol, but I wasn't using a bot it was just me and I wrote them myself for sale. The point was to make money selling high quality sexy stories not some trash. But because it was sex related "oh that's a bot."

From my experience running an SMM panel, and hundreds of crypto projects back in the day. Yes. He definitely made it a little harder. There was a report that came out not long ago that stated they are banning on average 208 bots per minute.

Looking at it from both points of views, I build bots daily there's always a way to skate around the red flags in place. I also combat bots daily on HF. I see firsthand everything that Omni does to combat bots. It's a never ending battle, and you're always going to have accidental casualties.
