Suggest me a free vpn for arch linux.

Do you know about any free VPN in to use in arch linux which one gives residential IP address?
Free VPNs log and sell data. For Arch, use Mullvad — pay with XMR, no account linking, wireguard-native. If you're broke, ProtonVPN free tier is the only one I'd trust, but it's slow. For sensitive infra, never free.

I could be wrong but I'm 90% certain that neither of those providers offer a residential VPN.

you're right — neither is residential. i should've been clearer on that.

to the original question: free + residential vpn basically doesn't exist. residential ips cost money to source and maintain, so anyone offering both is either selling your data or running a honeypot.

for actual residential on arch, you're looking at proxy services rather than vpns:

- bright data (formerly luminati) — enterprise pricing, residential proxy pools
- oxylabs — similar model, residential ips
- packetstream — p2p residential, cheaper but inconsistent

there are some vpn providers that claim residential add-ons but i haven't verified which ones are still active or legit. if anyone has current info on that, drop it.

honestly though for most arch use cases datacenter is fine. platforms don't flag datacenter vpns like they used to since everyone's using them now. residential only matters if you're trying to look like a home user in a specific city or something

mercury's right — figure out what you're actually solving for before picking the tool
Nobody mentioning OpenVPN?

I'd recommend WireGuard, but OP requested blackhat residential proxies.

I mean, VPNs.

OpenVPN is a protocol. Wireguard is a protocol. Wireguard is the response to some of the deficiencies of OVPN. Wireguard is over UDP.

Currently you are saying what you would have been saying, so I'm not entirely sure what you are saying. Haha

OP, did you ever get this figured out?

You seem to be saying a whole lot about saying the things that you're saying man but I still can't figure out what you're saying. I'm at a loss now.

Well free VPN no I would always strongly suggest using your own VPS and seting up your own VPN. Considering you an Arch user that should be easy but the rotating residential proxies is something I have been looking into especially for scanning as I cant use my main work provider.

I did come across https://www.starvpn.com/ but I havent had time to test it but seems like an option worth trying for scanning. Using scraped proxies or tor is a waste of time for scanning you need clean residential IP's.

But you could setup the VPN server to add multiple different API's for residential proxy providers yourself. Yes wireguard is currently fastest and safest but the issue in many countries is its blocked and due to travelling im stuck with openVPN on 443

Just out of curiosity, (and no I'm not being sarcastic here) why would you suggest configuring one's own VPN on a VPS? I've read conflicted opinions on this over the years as opposed to being "in the herd" if you will, connected to something like Proton just as an example where there are thousands of other users logged into.
