Digitalized hacking ideas to do along side with hardware hacking?

What are some new things to do? I'm currently preoccupied with hardware hacking projects and robotics work and coding, but I'd like to get back into some more software and digital based hacking. I know all of the stuff we normally talk about here in this section, for example, virusing (rats, keyloggers, stealers, etc), hacking websites and forums with exploits and vulnerabilities like XSS and SQLi, wifi hacking, etc.

I want to sort of graduate from that stage of digital hacking and move onto something a bit more advanced.

I code regularly, and I'm fluent in a few languages for software coding. I'm also fluent in Picaxe, a language used coding to Picaxe hardware and robotics. I'd rather not learn a new language right now, but rather some new ideas and methods/techniques in hacking. I want that initial feeling of entering a whole new world and learning everything about it.

Please post your ideas to move up from this stage in hacking to become a better hacker.

Please don't tell me to become a white hat. I can help someone fix their security issues just as good as any white hat without participating in the blind love for HJT that most white hats here have, but I'd also like to enjoy hardware hacking (which isn't considered white hat).
Hm. An automated system to feed or water your dog/cat would be pretty sweet.
you can activate it through your laptop/computer.
I'd love this.
Although I think this is more hardware then software.
I'd really rather learn a whole new idea/section of hacking, for instance there is a virusing section of hacking, a hardware modification section of hacking, a website alteration section of hacking, etc. I believe they already have automated systems to feed pets. I might make one of those since you suggested it, but I'd still like to get some ideas on the above post. Thanks for suggesting that, I'll put it on my hardware set up idea list.
Run linux off of a toaster.
If you do, can you post a tutorial, i'd love to make one.
Try exploits, they never get old. Try finding every possible exploit for a certain OS, IRCd, etc.

I was really looking for a whole new section of hacking, but I think exploiting things might actually be something I could do. What type of exploits were you thinking? Exploits that would allow downloading of a file upon execution, for instance Adobe Reader, or exploits that would somehow help spread viruses, or what? I'm probably not up to skill level to find any really efficient exploits as of now.

Try Phone haxxoring if you want a somewhat unexplored area (by most) of hacking.
And whatever you fancy. Try finding something to help distribute malware, file execution, crash a service, bypass a login, etc. Anything. Be creative. :)
By the way, your blog is fucking hilarious.
for hardware hacking I've been messing with an arduino (http://www.arduino.cc/) can do lots with, the teensy is a board similar that was used to hack the PS3 if your familiar.. you can really do almost anything as long as you have the imagination and creativity to pull it off. i've seen some projects in make magazine that might interest you, i mean not exploits but pretty neat. they got a nice remote control lawn mower (honey i shrunk the kids anyone?) i'd like to make an aerial version with a camera :) "snoop on to them as they snoop on to us." Or read the art of intrusion? has a good article on slot machine hacking that sounds super interesting. Anyway, good luck finding something new!
Joshc, I can't find any good resources on modern phone hacking.

r0nix, I've been doing hardware hacking for a while, and I'd like to get into some more digital things as I used to do more often, but I like the idea of a remote control lawn mower. I'll add it to my do-in-the-future list.
