Firstly, you need to make sure that you have Admin Control Panel access. To do this, log in to your forum account, and look for this in the top-right:

If you have access to the Admin CP, click the link and log in to the CP using your forum account details again.

You should be brought to a screen displaying all sorts of system and forum information. It will have a header like this:

THIS IS VITAL: Check to make sure that the suffix to "Welcome to IP.Board" is 3. This tells us the IP board version number. We need this to be 3 for this particular shell to work.
I have not tried this on other versions, so if you have a shell for another version, go ahead and try it.
Now you know the version is correct, we know that we can successfully install the shell

Firstly, navigate to the "Manage Hooks" section of the Admin CP. This is located in the left navigation bar, under the heading "Applications & Modules"

Once clicking the link "Manage Hooks", you'll be taken to a page that most likely displays "Installed Hooks" such as the IP Shoutbox and Galley. We want to scroll down to the bottom, where you will find this:

This is where you need to upload the shell. Use the shell I have provided in the download links here. Once you have browsed for it, hit "Install" and it should start installing the shell. This may take up to a minute.
Once it has finished installing, navigate to the forums index (e.g. www.website.com/forum/) and then add this on to the end of the URL:
Code
?c99shell=The final URL should look like:
Code
www.website.com/forum/?c99shell=When you visit this link, it should navigate you to your shell, and now you have successfully followed this tutorial on how to install a shell on IPB version 3!
