[Tutorial + source] Embed Mozilla Gecko (Firefox) browser to your project [vb.net]

By using GeckoFX you can simply replace the IE default browser with a more powerful and speedy Firefox engine.

Spoiler (Click to View)

GeckoFX is a Windows Forms control written in clean, commented C# that embeds the Mozilla Gecko browser control in any Windows Forms Application.

Steps to implement GeckoFX.

1. Go here and download the binary Skybound.Gecko.dll

2. Go to your form and add the gecko.dll .net component.

3. You can now see the gecko web browser in the toolbox. Drag it to your form.

4. You will need XULLRUNNER which is a mozilla run time package download it from here.
Spoiler (Click to View)

5. Once downloaded you need to invoke the xullrunner in start up, the run-time environment for GeckoFX Mozilla component is managed by xullrunner.

So you need to put this code in start-up, remember that this startup event is in the "Application".

PHP Code

<?php
Private Sub MyApplication_Startup(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As Microsoft.VisualBasic.ApplicationServices.StartupEventArgs) Handles Me.Startup
Skybound
.Gecko.Xpcom.Initialize("C:\xulrunner")
End Sub

The browser component will not work without the xulrunner. In this typical browser example I am Initializing the xulrunner from "c:\xulrunner". So you need to extract the xulrunner in C:\xulrunner folder. Also remember that the location must contain "xulrunner.exe".

That's all about the initializing setup. Once you are done with it, the coding syntax is almost similar to the default webbrowser component.

example :
PHP Code

<?php
GeckoWebBrowser1
.Navigate("www.google.com")

The Mozilla browser component is faster and efficient than the normal default IE browser.

Download : xxxx feedback, and I will Pm you the source :)

The web browser is currently limited in functionality, I just included the basic functions and a history. You can modify it if you want. Happy coding and do remember to feedback..

If you can download and see the source code. Its nothing like the other tutorial. It's much simpler :)

EDIT : Step 2.
Put the entire xulrunner folder after it is extracted into the debug folder also.

^^ This in the other tutorial is completely unnecessary.
Peace..
The other tutorial on this was terrible.

Why would he need a vouch? He's not selling anything, this is a tutorial.

Apparently vouch is losing it's original definition and means he is "supporting" the OP's post?
I LOVE IT ♥
Thank you so much !

Looks great, I've never seen a tutorial on how to use GeckoFX.
