I personally hate when people do this. I don't see why the OP doesn't just post the information he would send in the PM in the thread. It just wastes my time having to post, then having to PM, then having to wait, when I could just see the information right away.

This is simply to prevent leeching of the giveaways/product, in theory.
Omni has said in the past that the implement of an anti-leech system is a bit out of the question as it gets quite complicated and would arise more issues than it would actually help.

Is it really that big of a deal? It keeps the thread alive is another reason why people do it. And it's free! You have to type 25 characters to get something free and you complain about it.
