Port Forwarding
First a little background on why im writing this, it seems that many TuT on HF explain how to Port Forward, however many people still have problems with ports being closed/timing out. Im going to try and address almost every possibility for why this may happen. So here we go!
1. Port Forwarding(Router):
Ok so a quick run through of how to port forward, these steps can be found at http://portforward.com/ and are generaly straight forward (Please note that I assume your ip is static, in other words it doesn’t change when you restart your computer. To find out how to make your ip static please go here: https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?ti...=Static+IP or use Google). I also assume your using a wireless router and not a direct connection. Also make sure that you actualy have something listening to the port before running the canyouseeme test
1. Go to your command prompt (start>cmd (in search bar)) and type in ipconfig
2. Look for your default gateway and IPv4 addresses remember these!
3. Open a internet browser window and type in your default gateway address
4. A prompt should appear asking for you login and pass, this is usualy either admin – admin or admin – password
5. Once you have logged in find the port forwarding/triggering tab
6. Choose to create a new port forward
7. Select both TCP and UDP, and make the start and end port the port you wish to forward
8. Next, input your IPv4 address as the IP to forward to
9. Now use canyouseeme.org, if its open your done, if not keep reading
2. Port forwarding the Modem:
This is the part I never figured out till the very end, and it isn’t mentioned as much as it should be. In some cases your modem needs to be port forwarded to your router as well, although the steps are a little different its generally the same process, we will use more or less the same info from the first section:
1. Login to your router
2. Look for a tab that says router status (if you can’t find this skip to step: 5 )
3. Now look for an IP address under Internet port, this will look similar to your default gateway IP (for example my gateway is 192.168.1.1 and my internet port IP is 192.168.15.2)
4. Remember this IP!
5. Now enter your internet IP into the address bar but make sure the last number is 1 (again going back to my example, if my internet IP was 192.168.15.2 I would enter it as 192.168.15.1) If your were unable to find your internet IP try using 192.168.15.1, if that doesn’t work try googling your modem
6. You should be asked to login, again this will either be admin-admin admin-password router-router or router-password, if none of these work try googling your modem to find the default password
7. Once you’ve logged in, look for the port forwarding/triggering section.
8. Enter the same info however this time set the destination ip as the internet port IP you found on your router (192.168.15.2 for example)
9. Test your port at canuseeme.org
3. Firewalls
This is more or less self-explanatory, try shutting your firewalls down or at least lowering them
4. Modem and Router Firewalls
It may be that your modem and/or router have there own firewalls, log on to them and check to see if they can be shut off.
Well I hope this helps, Please comment if I missed anything you think might help, please bump if you thought this was helpful so others may also benefit
