Basic iPhone Questions Answered!

This is a post where all the basic iphone questions are gonna be answered!

1. What is Jailbreaking?
Wikipedi Wrote:iOS jailbreaking, or simply jailbreaking, is the process of removing the limitations imposed by Apple on devices running the iOS operating system through use of custom kernels. Such devices include the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, and Apple TV 2G. Jailbreaking allows users to gain full access (or root access) to the operating system, allowing iOS users to download additional applications, extensions, and themes that are unavailable through the official Apple App Store, via installers such as Cydia. A jailbroken iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad running iOS can still use the App Store, iTunes, and other normal functions, such as making telephone calls. Unlike rooting an Android device, jailbreaking is necessary if the user intends to run software not authorized by Apple.

2. Is Jailbreaking Legal?
Quote:Under the DMCA of 2010, jailbreaking Apple iDevices is legal in the United States, although Apple has announced that the practice "can void the warranty."[1] However, the jailbreaking process does not include any modification to the hardware, so it can be quickly and easily reversed simply by restoring the operating system through iTunes.

6. Can Jailbreaking void my warranty?

Code
Yes and No. If you jailbreak your iDevice, all it does is it changes your files to make them able to mess with :P. [u][b]IT DOES NOT MESS WITH THE HARDWARE![/b][/u]. By simply connecting your device to iTunes and clicking "Restore" you can take all JB info off, making it look like it never was jailbroken! THE ONLY WAY TO VOID YOUR WARRANTY IS... if you take a jailbroken device to apple to fix it or some shit.

7. Can jailbreaking Brick (not work) my iDevice?

Well, ya. But there is a .0001% chance that will happen. Some of the reasons are

  1. You unplug your Device while its jailbreaking
  2. The method of jailbreaking is wrong
  3. Its a tethered rarther than untethered
  4. There is no jailbreak for the Device
  5. YOU did something wrong

8. What is the difference between Tethered and Un-tethered Jailbreaking?

Tethered: The tethered method requires you to jailbreak your iDevice in state where when you reboot or restart your iDevice, it is required that you connect it to the computer and boot it up again. This mostly happens when there is a new Firmware out and the Dev team is racing to get a jailbreak out for it.

Un-Tethered: This method does not require you to connect to your computer to reboot or respring.

12. Can I get Android on iPhone?

Yes and No. You cant get the actual Android, but if you have a ipod 1G or Iphone 2g, then you can install froyo on your Device. But all the new devices you can only get emulators which just emulate Android.
