тeн ѕмeх's advice booth. Problems? I'll help, for free. Free advice. [post or pm]

I've recently become a nicer person. 'WTF!?!' I hear you cry! I've decided to contribute to HF, and help some other people. Recently there's a lot of threads (I've even made some of my own) just people venting their feelings to everybody. I want to help those people. I'm a pretty cool guy once you get to know me :P and I hope I can help some people on HF.

So how does this work? Basically, just post, or if you'd rather PM me, that's fine, your feelings, or any problems you've got that you don't know how to deal with. I'll give you my honest advice, and my views from an impartial observer (Big words eh?!). So don't be shy, as you can always PM me if it's personal. I don't bite! Just get posting, because I want to help some people :)

That is all,

My problem is I want to learn javascript, but I don't want to waste my time learning a language that I'll also have to learn HTML, PHP and CSS to use. What do I do? Learn it and waste my time, or continue learning desktop java?

If you want to have a career where Desktop Java is required, go ahead and learn that if it's working out for you. I find quite a bit that if I don't enjoy what I'm learning, I have a tendency to perform worse, which can be a bad point. On the other hand, learning HTML, PHP & CSS could also be beneficial to you, as they are languages most sought after in the web industry, and the addition of javascript will also be good for you. With 4 languages under your belt, you'll have no trouble working freelance as a web designer, and this potentially could be a big money maker if you work hard. My advice would be to put in the effort now, and reap the rewards later on. After learning the languages, I suggest designing some websites with nonsense (lorum ipsum loro etc) writing on them, to display your talent to potential clients. This is a great way to lure in business, and will almost definitely work for you.

If you just want these skills for personal use, then I'd still recommend learning the languages. In a world where ICT is being used more and more, these skills will be beneficial to you at a later date.

To conclude, go for the first option. It might be tough work now, but you'll almost certainly be happy you chose that in the long run.

As an aspiring video game designer, I am assuming I will need at least a bit of programming knowledge. I am currently learning c++ and lua, what other languages do you recommend, if any?

You're not getting a big answer as I have reason to believe you're trolling ^.^

But if you're not- be honest with her, and if she really is the one, she'll accept you and understand.

I don't really know a lot about this. My best guess would be to search the web for what other languages you may need for that career, or even better- check out some gaming company's websites, and find the jobs/careers page. They usually list some qualifications, but mainly 'experience with (x) programming language', so that's a good idea. Good luck!

Well then if she's not the one and she's a bitch, don't fucking get with her.
Nicer person eh?
Funny, yesterday I had a friend on HF saying although people are constantly beig LQ, I don't have to be so "harsh" was the word he used.
What is you opinion? Should I tone it down. My answers are not always friendly, but at least they are informative.

Fuck, this girl has been flirting with me for a week. I pussied out on asking her out, she would answer my text in under 2 minutes. I just texted her and no reply for an hour.

Is it over?

Depends if the dude's a super troll, or just a new member. If it's a new member, then clearly you should be nice and welcoming to the community. If it's a troll... Well you know the saying- 'don't feed the troll'. They thrive on people like you getting angry and raging in replies (that's what I assume you meant). That's all I can say really. Oh, and think what it would be like to be that user, reading that reply from you, then maybe re-word it a little before you hit that reply button! :)

She may have lost her phone or something dude! Don't give up hope just yet. I've been chatting with this amazing girl on Facebook recently, and sometimes she just won't reply for a while. But think about it. Not all of everybody's lives are spent on Facebook/Phones. People need a break once in a while! I'd leave it a day or two, then if she still hasn't replied, just tell her your feelings. Worst thing that can happen is she'll say no. And that's alright! In fact, you'll probably become more confident in yourself after that. Girls aren't aliens from the planet zorg, you know! Just talk to her. Leave her a message on her phone saying 'sorry if I creeped you out, I just want to talk!', or something like that.

Best of luck!
