Warning Reason, but no Report Reason?

Okay, so we have a Warning Reason of Bad Grammar here at Hack Forums, which earns you a 2% warning level. However, there is no option to report a post with Bad Grammar.

I can remember a few months back when a lot of users were complaining that staff weren't taking enough action on the rules and then the staff had a "crackdown" in essence and went on warning everybody for every small rule break.

That's not what I want. But we should start warning the users who have terrible spelling and grammar. Please note that here I'm not saying punish users who don't speak perfect English, what I'm saying is punish the users who will make a post like this: "hi dood wlcum 2 hf hve fun here brah lrn da rules to! hve fun man!".

Even users who don't speak great English can do better than that, I'm sure. So, I propose a new report reason of "Broken English". You wouldn't use it to report a couple of spelling or grammar issues, but to report the posts that don't actually use English at all.

Thoughts?
no offense but thats just annoying. Whats the point of sitting around reporting people for bad grammar if they can't speak then dont read their threads.
This isn't grammar school, just ignore them no one is forcing you to try to understand what they are saying.

Thats just going to create a load of pointless reports. And it seems a good way for users to find anything to report to try and look good for staff.

it's not going to happen.
There was a thread like this a few months back. Omni stated to report posts with Bad Grammar as "Low Quality", and the staff would make the better decision.

It's not annoying, it's annoying for us members to have to read them. And again, I'm not talking about reporting for a couple of spelling mistakes, I'm talking about reporting those posts which don't actually spell one word correctly, or purposely use short-hand text talk. It's annoying.
This is a stupid suggestion, no offence but you can't have thought this through properly.

Do you know how much staff time this would waste? Everyone would report a post for minor infractions on the rule. People already report pretty much everything as "Low Quality".

If you can read it then there's no reason for it to be punished. If you can't read it maybe you need to work on your own English to encorporate "internet talk" and "L33T speak". Even the example you gave wasn't difficult to read.

Why should I learn to read "L33T speak" when this is actually meant to be an English-speaking forum? But I guess you're right in a way, this kind of posting could fall under the Low Quality category instead.

Maybe you can try reporting them as LQP.
Having grammatical errors in sentences is not a major problem. If you, however, see a post that has no structure at all, you could report it as 'Low Quality'. In most occasions, this will be denied.
Remember, not everyone has English as their first-born language (such as myself), which makes it easy to make grammatical errors. The best thing you could do, is ignore it.
Report as 'Low-Quality', or 'Other'. Improper grammar is considered as Low-Quality.

We recommend you take the time to read the HF Help Documents section. The answer to your questions should be contained in there.

Again, I wasn't talking about a few grammatical errors, I was talking about posts which have no reasonable spelling or grammar whatsoever.

Don't give me that help crap, the answer to this question is not clearly stated in the Help Documents, thank you.

You should learn to read "L33T speak" because if you can't then it proves either you're quite unintelligent or your native language isn't English.

People speak like that on the internet, if you don't like it maybe you should go to a different, stricter forum.

I'm English and I speak with decent grammar on the internet but I don't criticise others who don't. Sure, when I'm handing in an assignment at college I make sure everything is grammar perfect and spell checked but I see no need to do so when posting on an internet forum. As long as what someone posts is readable I really couldn't give a fuck what there grammar is like.

I'm actually very intelligent and my native language is English, however, I don't see why I should put the extra effort in to read the post when the user could just use proper English spelling and grammar like the rest of us who actually contribute high quality posts... 🙂

Sorry but where does it say anything about "Improper grammar" being classed under Low-Quality in the help documents?

Hackforums Help Docs Wrote:Low Quality
Posts that add nothing to the thread, are non-supportive, and are generally incoherent. Quoting posts without adding to them, avoiding character requirements in a post, and anything /b/ related are considered low-quality. Short posts like "thanks", "lol", "" or "" are low quality. Low Quality determination is at the discretion of the staff member who receives the report.

Nowhere in that do I see anything to do with grammar.

I can't think of a way to respond to this without sounding like I'm being insultive. Most native English speakers don't have to put in much extra effort to read small amounts of badly written text.

I can understand complaining if you're reading a badly written book, large amount of badly written text can be hard to read, especially if it's structureless.

Just report it as low-quality and it'l be seen to.
