Bakemonogatari's NisiOisin Starts Detective Novel Series

The official Twitter account of Kodansha's novel imprint confirmed on Monday that author NisiOisin will launch a new novel series called Tantei Toshi Densetsu (Detective Urban Legends) in the literary magazine Mephisto's third volume on December 6.

Kodansha also confirmed that Koimonogatari (pictured right), the last book in the "second season" arc of NisiOisin's Monogatari novels, will ship on December 22. To celebrate this, Kodansha is holding a "NisiOisin Festival" campaign by offering special goods to people who buy certain NisiOisin books, the Bakemonogatari Blu-ray Disc Box, or the complete Bakemonogatari Songs & Soundtracks collection. Kodansha is also selling a 2012 school calendar with all 12 Monogatari cover illustrations from the first Bakemonogatari book to Koimonogatari.

NisiOisin's Monogatari novels inspired the Bakemonogatari television anime series, next January's Nisemonogatari television series, and next year's Kizumonogatari film. There is also NisiOisin's similarly named but separate Katanagatari television anime series and the upcoming Medaka Box television anime series.

Megpoid Colorist, A Channel Manga Creator Draw on Wacom

Wacom, a maker of computer drawing tablets and screens, posted the above videos of professional artists using its Cintiq 24HD pen tablet. Tuesday's new video features Ameiro, the colorist for the Megpoid Vocaloid character voiced by Megumi Nakajima and designed by Masami Yuuki. Last month's video showcases a drawing by bb Kuroda, the creator of the school comedy manga A-Channel.

Both videos are part of an ongoing series of such videos. Previous featured artists include Hidamari Sketch creator Ume Aoki, So-Ra-No-Wo-To designer Mel Kishida, Hatsune Miku designer Kei, Tonari no 801-chan creator Ajiko Kojima, Petit Eva - Evangelion@School character designer Ryusuke Hamamoto, and others.

Since the software package was released in 2009, Megpoid has been featured in songs and even a singing robot. Its developer is planning an Megpoid Extend update that is compatible with recently released Vocaloid3 software engine upgrade.

Kuroda's A-Channel manga inspired a television anime this past spring, and Sentai Filmworks licensed it for North America.

Oricon Poll: Views on Turning Anime/Manga into Live-Action

The market research firm Oricon posted the results of its survey on how people perceived live-action television series and movie adaptations of anime, manga, and video games. Oricon selected 1,000 panelists, evenly divided by gender and four age groups: teenagers, people in their 20s, people in their 30s, and people in their 40s. Oricon then conducted its survey with this nationwide sample between October 25 and October 28 online.

About 65% of respondents said they were not satisfied with live-action adaptations. Overall, 16.8% said they were "completely unhappy" with such films and television dramas while 48.4% were "somewhat unhappy." Only 3.8% were "very happy" with live-action adaptations while the remaining 31.0% said they were "fairly happy."

As the most negative respondents, 68% of men chose "somewhat unhappy" or "completely unhappy" while 73.1% of people in their 20s selected those replies. Panelists in their 30s had the most positive feelings towards these adaptions with 39.6% answering "fairly happy" or "very happy."

Oricon also asked fans what they want most in live-action adaptations of anime and manga. Most respondents (69.6%) said having a cast that matches the original work is important. About half of the panelists (49.5%) said they want the live-action versions' stories to remain faithful to the original work. Other criteria people desired in live-action adaptations were consultation with the original creator regarding the cast and script (33.7%), the inclusion of scenes that capture the "spirit" of the original story (29.7%), and diligence in incorporating characters' trademark items (22.7%).

Oricon conducted a similar poll in June that asked people which mange they thought were successfully adapted into live-action. Nodame Cantabile, Hana Yori Dango, and Jin topped the list. In September, the Japanese portal site Goo asked its readers which live-action adaptations of manga or anime they liked. That list's top three titles were Death Note, Umizaru, and Rookies.

Voice Actress, Singer Michal Friedman Passes Away

ANN confirmed on Wednesday that singer/songwriter and voice actress Michal Friedman (Michal The Girl) passed away on November 25. Friedman died from complications after giving birth to twins by cesarean section. Friedman's twin children were born healthy.

Friedman played roles in various anime, such as Esther in Mobile Suit Gundam UC and Paya (cute version) in Magical Witch Punie-chan. Friedman's website notes that she played Seisei in Samurai Deeper Kyo and various roles in The Gokusen. Friedman also voiced the role of Annalise in the new Speed Racer: The Next Generation cartoon, and she also voiced Tune in the animated television series Winx Club.

As a singer and songwriter, Friedman released two albums, and two of her songs were featured in the film Travellers and Magicians. She also was a vocalist for various tracks from several major European dance music composers.

Friedman was the wife of fellow voice actor Dan Green (Yu-Gi-Oh!'s Yugi Muto, Sonic X's Knuckles, Samurai Deeper Kyo's Kyoshiro Mibu).

A memorial service for Friedman was held in New York City on Wednesday afternoon. A website has been set up where visitors can donate money to help with the immediate expenses needed to raise the twins.

Bleach's Kubo Draws Gorillaz on Band's 10th Anniversary

Bleach creator Tite Kubo has drawn an illustration in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the music group Gorillaz, who released its debut album in 2001 — the same year that Weekly Shonen Jump began serialization on Bleach.

The illustration is Kubo's rendition of the band's four fictional members, who are normally represented as animated characters. The illustration also commemorates the November 30 release in Japan of the band's The Singles Collection 2001-2011 album.

Kubo wrote a congratulatory message to the Gorillaz to accompany the illustration. The English-translated message on Emi Music Japan's website reads:

Quote:The impact from "Clint Eastwood" still lingers 10 years on.

In the same year I started to draw my current work, Gorillaz released the 1st album. For these 10 years, Gorillaz have remained very special to me. They will continue to do so for the next 10.

Before the next 10 years begin, I need to listen to this album.

Thanks Gorillaz. All the best for the next 10 years.

Tite Kubo

Kiss x Sis OVA!

You heard right! The new Kiss x Sis OVA is out and is better than ever. The sixth within the OVA series, it contains just about everything this time. With all your favorite characters and more! The plot is focused on the national health day in Japan, where you get a body examination within school, of course this means for some very provocative scenes!

The episode doesn't have the greatest plot line, but I could never say Kiss x Sis did, what it does have though, is some of the greatest Ecchi moments ever. Whether you're a fan or not; it's worth a watch. We at AA News do recommend that you're of a "mature" age to watch this though. With it being an OVA, it isn't aired on TV, therefore it is uncensored! (To a degree) So watch with care!

Figurine Corner - With Happeh!

We have quite a few figurines this week. Some adorable ones, to just plain b-e-a-utiful. To start us off this week, we have;

1) Fate/Extra's Saber placed into a highly detailed figurine. This is really well done and the makers deserve a clap for this one. And it may look like it may become an essential for any Saber lover. This baby is available May 2012.

2) Secondly we have a figurine from Embrace Japan, some of you may know this heroine from Italy in the famous Metal Slug series. That's right, it's Fiolina Germi! This is also one of the higher detailed figurines and look perfect in her stance. It also includes the Tank going over the wooden bridge, and prison of war. Nice little pack to get for a gift for someone. This one is released in March 2012

3) Did anyone remember that anime Oreimo? Well I do, and I'm really looking forward to these next two figurines. Not only do they look very cute, they both match alongside each other. I'm also in love with Kuroneko, which is what this figurine is moddled after. Wave made this figurine and will be released May 2012.

4) So I mentioned before these figurines will go along side each other, so what would it be like if they didn't feature the main protagonist out of this anime! Crazy that's what! That's right this model is based after Kirino Kousaka, and is very well done! Very cute and I'm really tempted to buy both of these! Wave is also behind this one and like the other, it will be released May 2012!

The Misty-effect

The Misty-effect is a pretty unknown word. It has its origins from the Netherlands. Due to a lack of voice actors, multiple series have the same voice actor for multiple characters. This, in disfavor to the audience, is not a rare case there.
The mist-effect has its name obtained from the female heroine of the original Pokémon series. Due to her voice actress having multiple roles but not changing her voice intonations caused a wide variety of characters to be voiced exactly the same. The young children listening to this aren’t liking it of course. Due to attaching the voice to a certain character and then having it heard from a completely different one. The Misty-effect rarely happens in other countries (some excluded) because most have more voice actors/actresses in number and in experience.

Let’s hope for the future that this phenomenon may never appear again, for it lessens anime experience.

 • Skuxta has recently purchased a sticky in the Anime Adventures section to promote his anime forum. The sticky has had positive and negative effects on AA members with some open to checking it out and some openly condemning it in loyalty to AA. Check out what its all about here: https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=1913244

 • Itachi Uchiha recently made a thread informing members about Shinkai's new anime: Hoshi O Ou Kodomo. This in turn informed a lot of members (specially me) that the 1080p torrent is currently available!

 • A recent shit fling between members in AA has resulted in a general dip in forum quality with fighting in new members threads, negative repping, threads being made on the subject and other things that aren't good for the section. The result of this was buthurt people left right and center as well as a rep-fuck. Members should take these results into consideration before having a bitch-fit in AA.

 • AnimeFAN has released a little more information about their upcoming competition. The competition will be held shortly after new years 2012 and information will be released up to that point but the actual competition (what its about) wont be released until the week before.
