The online shop of the Japanese broadcaster TBS is celebrating the birthday of K-ON! manga/anime bassist character Mio Akiyama on Sunday with exclusive birthday cards (just like on the birthdays for her band mates). In honor of Mio's January 15 birthday, the store will offer 1,150 cards while supplies last.
On Sunday, the first 650 people who spend at least 5,000 yen (about US$65) at the "ishop" will receive the exclusive birthday cards. Another random 500 online shoppers will be selected to receive the remaining cards.
Fans have already started to celebrate her birthday at home with cakes and figures

Mega(block)upload Site Shut Down Partly Due to Fruits Basket Anime
The U.S. Department of Justice shut down the Hong Kong-based file-sharing service Megaupload on Thursday during an ongoing investigation into the company's alleged copyright infringement. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and U.S. Justice Department announced on Thursday that seven individuals and two corporations have been charged in the United States with violating piracy laws and committing other crimes.
According to an indictment filed by a grand jury in the U.S. District Court of Alexandria, Virginia on January 5, the defendants were accused of two substantive counts of criminal copyright infringement and conspiracies to commit money laundering, racketeering, and copyright infringement. The indictment listed 103 alleged, overt criminal acts, including a 2010 incident involving a user who watched the television anime series Fruits Basket via a linking site.
The U.S. Justice Department claims that Megaupload Limited, Vestor Limited, and seven individuals gained more than US$175 million in illegal proceeds and cost copyright holders more than US$500 million in lost revenue. The FBI's press release labels Megavideo and its related sites and services as an "international organized criminal enterprise" responsible for large-scale worldwide piracy of various copyrighted works. As one of the largest criminal copyright cases brought by the United States, officials executed more than 20 search warrants in nine countries, confiscated about US$50 million in assets, and seized 18 domain names associated with the alleged "Mega conspiracy" on Thursday.
Founded in 2005, Megaupload allowed users to reproduce and distribute movies, music, television programs, electronic books, and software, according to the grand jury's indictment. The legal document also alleges that Megaupload supported the use of third-party linking websites to promote infringing content and used a business model designed to encourage illegal uploading. The U.S. Justice Department said that the company failed to delete accounts of users known to distribute copyrighted material and misrepresented that infringing copies of works were removed.
The individual defendants are citizens of Germany, Slovakia, Finland, Estonia, and the Netherlands. New Zealand authorities arrested four of the defendants, including the Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom and director Mathias Ortmann, in Auckland on Thursday. The accused individuals each face a maximum sentence of 65 years in prison for the combined charges. According to BBC News, Megaupload posted a message saying that "the vast majority of Mega's internet traffic is legitimate" and that the allegations were "grotesquely overblown" before the site was shut down on Thursday.
Last February, police in Japan's northern Akita Prefecture arrested an 18-year-old male student for allegedly using Megaupload to illegally distribute 260 manga titles.
On Wednesday, various websites participated in an Internet "blackout" to protest the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) bills that were proposed in the U.S. Congress.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Demo has been released!
Last week a demo of the latest final fantasy game: Final fantasy XIII-2 was released on Xbox 360 and playstation 3.
With the game’s North-American release on January 30th and the European release on Febuary 3rd, the demo could prove helpful for those awaiting the games release. The demo features gameplay of Noel and Serah and includes fighting tutorials, some quests and an introduction to the new monster control system. Altough the demo is a bit long compared to other games, but is still enjoyable to play.
I hope that most of you will find the demo as enjoyable as I did.
Bandai pulling out of the American market
A decision that was made last October, but only just being publicly announced to the public, is to recall Bandai from the American anime market. This was a big call from Bandai and one of their main reasons to do so was the ever growing cause of piracy.
Financially Bandai has been hit pretty bad and over the last 5 years it's income has shrunk substantially, and they quote to say that: "We will never return to the glory days." This is a big hard hitting statement and might knock some of those pure pirates out there to go out and buy an anime DVD or two.
Although they are backing out, they have made it clear that their current catalog of items is still available and will still be available until their retrospective licenses run out in America. So manufactures will still store those discs and when they've run out, they can still order more, but once that ever so important license runs out, that will be the end of that product. So if you are thinking about buying a certain DVD box set, make sure you buy it before it's license has ran out. Otherwise you could be relying on Online services or disappointment.
Although they are moving out, they are still staying - I know funny huh? They are still handing out sub-licenses to internet services and TV companies to use their animes. So it isn't the end for Bandai. Not yet anyway.
Man Denied Bail for 'Japanese Animation' Porn
This one might be quite interesting to you loli fans. Specially those who actually have some more explicit content on their PC's.
A man in Australia has been denied bail for Child Pornography on his computer, not only did he have REAL children in proactive acts, he had 320 "Japanese animation" (manga) pictures too. The high court magistrate was asked if this counted as Child Pornography due to it not causing any real harm to children, but they rules out any innocence saying: "the images qualified as child abuse because the NT Criminal Code outlaws material that "depicts, describes or represents" children engaging in sex, being subjected to torture, or being shown in other degrading contexts" The judge also said some of the stories also fell into these category's.
Previously in 2010 a man was also in court due to his collection of children images from the cartoons: The Simpsons, Powepuff Girls and The Incredibles. He is now on the sex offenders list and sentenced to 12 months in prison. Although he was sentenced to non-anime/manga images, the idea still stands. Be careful out there you AA citizens. It's a wild world, and I wouldn't want any of you sentenced due to having any of the images mentioned in the article.
