[TUT]AlfaAWUS036NH 2000mw driver install and fix (injection working, aircrack suite)

Hey guy's

I have been working on trying to get the AlfaAWUS036NH 2000mw adapter working for months now.
I managed to get it working a few nights ago, and for those of you who have this adapter, I'm sure you share my pain. this tut is a quick and easy one, no pix , no big word's, just copy and paste=]

INTRO

-Im using ubuntu 10.10 - maverick (lucid should work too)
so you will have to compensate apt-get according to your distro.
(backtrack 5 user's shouldn't have a problem with this as its based on 10.04)
-iv done this from a fresh installation, make sure you remove any previous attempt of driver's.
-This information is of a few site's iv studied, and is not my own direct work. but rather a bunch of finds compiled together to get a working card.
-after this, your card will be about.. 75% functional with aircrack, packet injection! ;)
-your card will also have the channel fix inbuilt =]
-you will install 2 drivers 2870sta and 2800usb.. the 2800usb will suport injection wile the 2870 will allow you to surf. only one may run at a time

ok, so lets get into it.

first of, open terminal with root privileges.
Code
sudo su

now i would like you to install the following:
Code
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r) build-essential make patch subversion openssl libssl-dev zlib1g zlib1g-dev libssh2-1-dev libnl1 libnl-dev gettext autoconf tcl8.5 libpcap0.8 libpcap0.8-dev python-scapy python-dev cracklib-runtime macchanger-gtk tshark ethtool

now install/update "IW"

Code
sudo apt-get install iw

after that, download this file:
Code
http://www.janoweb.net/drivers-patch/compat-wireless-aircrack-maverick-patched.tar.bz2

Move or copy the drivers did you download in the directory
--> /usr/src/drivers
and do:
Code
cd /usr/src/drivers

sudo tar -xjvf compat-wireless-aircrack-maverick-patched.tar.bz2

cd compat-wireless-aircrack-maverick-patched

sudo make && sudo make install && sudo make wlunload

now lets load the driver =]
Code
sudo modprobe -r rt2870sta && sudo modprobe rt2800usb

now reboot. and test.
This worked for me.

Fixes and questions answered:
*fix1: on bootup, injection stops working because of 2870sta. use this command to get it working (unplug adapter)
Code
sudo modprobe -r rt2870sta
sudo modprobe rt2800usb
note: reverse this command to use Internet without injection.

I actually haven't been able to bring myself to get the new alfa card as I like the old one too much lol. But when I do, I'll know how to fix it :) Also, long time no see, buddy. How it goin? I'm not really around the wifi scene as I'm mainly focusing on internet stuff, but I'm thinking I should come back and check shit out :) PM me

Hey long time no see indeed!
Yeah, it's always good to pop back :)
All the old regulars don't seem to be around as much, haven't seen middle or ac1
In quite some time iether.
Yeah if I was you I wouldn't bother about this wifi card to much, it's very much not supported, though it works great with a yagi !
Wps authentication is hard to get working with this card.
Injection isn't to bad after this tut tho.

Hope too see you around more again

Alright. Yeah, I won't get it unless it drops down to like 20 bucks. Or maybe I'll just get it for the range and use it for normal internet access. That'll be useful for MITMs ;)
Glad you finally manage to find a way out on this.
Even though i`ve never had any problem injecting in BT environment with my NH(lucky me).
But Ubuntu users will find this quite usefull.
And yeah like 3k1yp2 said for some reason i still prefer using my 036H 1W and the older 500mW.
The funny part is that my 500mW is not original but still injects like hell.
Nice thread OP, it's very informative.😉

The nhr is not anything to do with this tutorial.

I dont even think the nhr is supported for hacking.

I know this tutorial is not for nhr. I just ask your help just to install my nhr because i cant use it.
I think this tutorial with a little modification can work as well for nhr.
I have the driver on CD, i try to install it using alfa instruction but i have an error that i don't have the permission or the rights to to that....
So what do i do with that driver from the CD?

Don't hurry to respond now. Tomorrow will be fine 😉
Thanks
