So I wanted to take a jab at making an anime review. Today I will be reviewing the anime "Escaflowne" which is the first anime I ever watched (completely, I've seen episodes of one piece and whatnot on TV).
Please keep in mind I'm reviewing the TV series, not the movie.
Here's the link to it on myanimelist:

What Got Me To Watch It:
My friend who is quite the anime fan wanted to get me into anime. So, one day while I was over at his house he put on Escaflowne, an anime which he had seen a few episodes of as a kid and tracked down to actually finish. We ended up watching it all together, which wasn't easy.
Summary:
(Taken from myanimelist.net... I have a bad habit of talking too much and spoiling things) High school student Hitomi is transported from Earth to the magical world of Gaea, where she meets boy prince Van Fanel, and is caught up in his quest to unite the countries of Gaea against the ominous Zaibach empire. On the way, she discovers an hidden ability and strives to unravel layers of mystery surrounding Van, his past, and the giant machine known as Escaflowne.
Characters: (1/10)
The characters made no sense at all. Every decision made was like a big WTF to me. I couldn't relate to any characters or understand the characters. The romantic element made little sense to me...
Animation: (6/10)
The animation seen throughout this series is adequate but considering the age (aired in 1996) I actually find it decently good when compared to some more recent works.
Story: (2/10)
Just like the characters, the story was a huge WTF. The writers threw in every plot twist they could think of, no matter how weird. The story just didn't make sense. It was all over the place and overall not a good story.
Ending: horrible. They made the most random ending just so it's not predictable, but the ending they used just failed so hard and makes no sense.
Basically what the ending said:
Spoiler (Click to View)
Enjoyment: (1/10)
I did not enjoy this anime at all. I watched it hoping that my first anime experience wouldn't be such a horrid one but I was wrong. I found a lot of the parts dragged on and were very boring. Since I couldn't relate to any characters or even understand them, the characters were unappealing. The story was too weird and all over the place. Not enjoyable. Considering it was a mecha anime, there was very little action.
Overall: (1/10)
I only watched this to make my friend who spent hours tracking down this anime happy.
I do not recommend this series for anything but torture.
